I'm looking at getting my dive rating, and the local shops here seem to be either PADI or SDI. Is there much difference between the 2? I do quite a bit of traveling, and want to make sure I'll be able to rent gear at most places.

First of all, I want to briefly introduce myself. I've been diving since '87, hold Instructor certs with NAUI, TDI and DAN and work as the Diving Safety Officer for the New England Aquarium in Boston, MA. I'm also a tech diver (though that is the newest component to my diving)
