Do they wash the mouthpieces of rented SCUBA gear18 Aug 2005 00:42 GMT49
I'm new to SCUBA. Sorry.
Can someone tell me if I need to buy my own mouthpiece before the trip
or the rented ones have some kind of sanitary insert. (I don't feel
like ingesting someone elses saliva stuck up the tube.)
Snorkeling with whale sharks17 Aug 2005 01:01 GMT8
I had the opportunity recently to swim/snorkel with whale sharks and
manta rays.  The tours are run from Isla Holbox (northeast area of
Yucatan).  It is amazing to see a 35' animal skimming the surface with
its mouth open gathering food.   It was a great experience.

Many of you may recall the news story on the death of cave diver David
Shaw at the Boesmansgat cave site in South Africa in January of this

About a week after the incident a 20 minute documentary was screened on
Lubricating low pressure hose12 Aug 2005 21:42 GMT26
My low pressure hose to my dry suit is getting quite difficult to
remove, which is a bit worrying in case I need to disconnect in a hurry.
What is the best sort of lubricant to use (obviously anything above
water would simply get sprayed with WD40 but I'm not sure this is a good

Gilboa Quarry in Ohio - Question?12 Aug 2005 18:57 GMT11
Anyone have any reviews/opinions on Gilboa Quarry in Ohio?  How is the
staff, what are the conditions like, how detailed of a plan is needed to
dive deep, etc?  I would like to go there, but have heard some negatives
about it from a group that is loyal to Whitestar Quarry, and ...
Awaiting my new Bio fins.12 Aug 2005 18:53 GMT79
Getting back into the boat on my second last dive in Catalina, one of my Force Fins
slipped into the water and disappeared in the current. I made a feeble attempt at
retrieving the lost fin but the low air, one fin and the current in 50-60ft water
quickly convinced me give up the ...

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I've been looking for
something the last couple of days and it's driving me to distraction.  I few

Good brands for snorkel, fins, masks09 Aug 2005 16:49 GMT7
I'm planning a trip with my wife to Carribean.
For strictly amateur SCUBA use, what brands of snorkel/fins/mask are
considered a reasonably good value. I don't want to buy disposable junk
but not want to go too crazy also. (We live in Northern NJ).
