Hi all,
new to this I'm afraid (diving and newsgroups) so no idea if this is the
right place to start/post etc... but anyway.....
Having just got back from diving in the Keys, the happy snappy point and
shoot just didn't do the business on all those turtles and rays we saw..
So in addition to dry suits, regs, guages, computers etc etc etc we now
'need' a camera too!
what would people recommend we should get? Ideally it would be digital,
with a small lcd screen, but should I look for 1.3mp, or 2mp ?? How good a
camera does it really need to be?
My current digi does have an underwater case I can get for it, an ewa-marine
D-A, or the D-AX which can have a flash mounted... does anyone have any
experience of these flexible cases, and are they any good (have checked out
the web site so I know what THEY say, but prefer to ask people who may have
used them before I put a ?600+ digi in it and take it to -15m)
should I look at an all in one type thing like the SEALIFE DC250 DIGITAL UW
SCUBA CAMERA, or should I go with a seperate camera and housing like an
olympus C40 with the PT 012 underwater housing?
please, experiences of either type of system would be most helpful, goods
and bads, personal recommendations gratefully read, and if anyone has one
for sale at all then please let me know....
(or if anyone has a dry suit suitable for a 5ft2in 9stone female with size
4/5 feet then please offer me that too LOL as after I freeze my butt off
portland this weekend in a semi I think I might decide to get one!!!)
Cheers folks, and if this is in/on the wrong board, or there are other
places to look then please let me know...

I have the Olympus C4000 with PT-010 housing and I am quite impressed with
the ease of use to get half decent photos. It prints out normal size photos
well, I use blueyonder for this.
I do need a red filter though.

The flexible bags have a major drawback, in that you may trust them to
remain waterproof at what they are rated to, you won't be able to use
them down there as the buttons will be stuck in.

I have the c40z and pt-012. I have a few prints of mine on the wall -
they look okay but they're quite small - To be honest the problem at the
momemt is certainly me and not the camera. If you want to see the kind
of things that the setup (4Mp) can produce (bear in mind that virtually
none of these are anywhere near full capability) - take a look at
www.roe.ac.uk/~bdp/diving - the poplar diver pics are probablyay any
time soon. Worth mentioning that the c40z is discontinued...
Presenting an alternative view to the Petes... I like a digi camera
because I can put the images straight on the web and I am not currently
in the league where I'm selling, or thinking of getting that way anytime
soon. I am learning about underwater photography and having instant
access helps me learn what I'm doing wrong. I want pictures for
souvineers, the £500 for my set up is about what I can justify for that!

More MP always give a better picture You must decide what you want to do
with them
I do snapshot to reasonably OK 8 x 10 and 4 to 5 MP is OK

I would not trust any camera of mine to a bag

External flash is a must for halfway decent pics.

Along the same lines, internetcamerasdirect have a sale on at the mo.
Minolta F100 4MP for ?199! I believe this is a reasonably good camera for
the money, and the housing is readily available.
Any thoughts?
