Hi all,
I'm considering a last-minute week away at Christmas, and need a bit of
advice (assuming I can get a booking).
Should I go for Sharm or Marsa Alam? I've been to both, and would prefer
Sharm on the basis that there's stuff to do in the evening and a choice of
dive centres, but am concerned about the delays at the marina - I'm told it
can be horrendous in high-season, whereas at MA you just roll up at Port
Ghalib and you're away. (I'm a novice, by the way).
Are the queues at Sharm enough of a nuisance to tip the balance in favour of
Marsa?
Cheers,
bhd.

Been to Sharm lots of times, never to Marsa Alam.
Never had a delay at the Travco jetty - loads of berths available for the
boats. Have occasionally had delays at the Shark's Bay jetty - but never
severe delays at any time of year. These have never been a talking point
among the guests nor dive guides and they certainly never interefered with
the day's enjoyment. In fact the indiscipline aded to the amusement, and it
would never stop me going to back to Sharm. In fact it hasn't done so.

Hi Fred.
We went to Sharm, Christmas 2005. Had a fantastic time!!
Also been in the summer of 2006.
The diving was only a quarter as busy at Christmas as it is in the summer.
Very relaxed, boats far from crowded. Dive sites empty.
Beware!! Night Time temps drop like a stone as soon as the sun goes. 10deg C
if you are lucky.
We used (both times) http://www.diveafrica.com/
We are going to Hurghada this Christmas.
