Is there anyone knowledgable about Suunto Dive Manager here? I recently
bought it to connect my Vytec DS to a PC running Windows98. I installed
version 2.3.0 and the USB drivers but it doesn't seem to recognise the port,
despite Device Manager saying that the port is working correctly. The Suunto
helpdesk sent me version 2.5.0, which did not help, but also said that Win98
is not compatible with their software even though the disc clearly states
that it is suitable.

No easy solution I can sympathise with you're predicament.
I've what is one of the older air integrated models (eon)  its a serial
connection. I had to install various versions of dive manager and delete and
re- install USB ivers to get it working. It wouldn't recognise the usb
connection.
I now have the serial connection end of the interface plugged into a usb
adapter in turn plugged into the pc .
Although I never did identify the definitive fix, its working now. In my
case it also seemed to be conflicting with other USB devices.

Suunto tried their best with tech support but in the end it boiled down to
trial and error and perseverance. If I recall correctly the version  of DM
quoted wouldn't work for me either. I find the pc even now quite slow in
recognising the adapted USB connection. When downloading dives it was
working one minute and then when reconnected not the next,  Rebootring the
PC seems to shock it back into action it then recognises the device

For what it's worth I'm running XP Service pack 2
Using Version 1.6 (06.0.3426) it's working fingers crossed.

Hope its of some help?

I run XP sp2 it didn't like the suunto interface.

I thought Windows 98 did not support USB correctly ? ... that may be
your issue, why not upgrade to XP ? or W2K
I used DM on XP and now on Vista Ultima 32 bit

I'm damned if I am going to change from Win98, which works perfectly well in
all other respects, just so I can see pretty graphs of my dives. No, the
Suunto adapter can go back for a refund. I have managed with such a gimmick
for twenty years, I daresay I can manage a few years more.

If you still want to use SDM and you can get a refund on the USB adaptor I
recomend using SDM 1.6, which in my opinion is the better version anyway and
get the serial adaptor which is cheaper.

I use this on my old 98 box when I am away with no problems.
