Looking at a liveaboard in the Maldives in January.
Never been to the Maldives before - Any comments. Particularly on
clothing and wet suit thickness required.
The boat is the Nautilus One. Has anybody out there been on this boat.
All comments welcome.

I used a 3mm full suit and never felt cold even at night. It was the only
place I have felt warm throughout a dive. Many people used shorties but I
just prefer the extra protection. I can recommend Sea Queen (see
www.scubascuba.com) we went with them last August and really enjoyed it.

The water will be 28C. Personally I get cold arms in a shorty after a
couple of hours underwater, so I go with a 5/3mm suit. Lots of the guides
wear 5mm full suits. Having been stung a few times by jellies, I'd say a
3mm full suit is the minimum I'd want to go in with, but then I do feel
the cold.

I was there in January this year, as Jason says 28 - I did most dives
in a 2.5mm shorty but if I was cold before the dive, normally fourth
dive of the day or night dive, I wore a 3mm full length

Whenever I dive the tropics I always carry my drysuit hood.
Yes, that's right - whatever you choose to wear, 2, 3, 5mm, you will
benefit by beginning the dive with your hood around your neck.
As the time goes you will get colder, so up with the hood OVER the mask
strap and you'll be warm again. You can always put it back down if you
wish, without having to displace the mask.
Very handy if you are diving deep and meet those thermoclines.
Haven't seen anybody else do that, but it seems logical to me - and it
works!
Flexibility in diving means comfort.
Enjoy,
