I am "getting back into diving" and have a 15litre cylinder which has not
been used for a couple of years. I wondered what the price of a service
would be ( assuming its not rusted).
A friend of mine tells me its probably cheaper to buy new. That cant be
right surely.

Hydro about £25, O2 clean if you dive nitrox about £10-15. new 15L

I just paid £30 for a hydrostatic test, which you'll probably need. A
visual inspection is cheaper.

The cylinder has not ben used for about 4 years but was left with 150bar of
some nitrox mix or other.
It will probably need a full going over.
Thanks

Just had 2 cylinders in for service (full 5yr test)
Cost £18 per cylinder ... good news for me that they don't charge any extra
to certify them as O2 clean ... (Nitrox Cylinders) some companies charge
extra for this.
If your cylinders have been kept with a small positive pressure there should
be no rust problem.

If you're going to gloat about how cheaply you managed to get a
cylinder hydro'ed and cleaned, you could at least tell us who
did it for you. IME everyone charges extra for certifying
cylinders as O2 clean, and this company is highly unusual.
There's no point issuing a good service report if you don't give
the name of the company.

Gloat ? ... are you are reading something other than I wrote.
I answered the question raised, i.e. provided information on how much
testing costs.
I have no problem giving the name ... it's Days Diversified products,
Swansea ... well known in Wales for good value diving products &
services.
