Updated: 13:05, Sunday July 09, 2006
One diver has been killed and four injured in a major emergency at the
National Diving Centre in Leicestershire.
A team from RAF Kinloss were called to the incident at Stoney Cove at 10am.
The four divers who have been injured are suffering the effects of the
bends.
They have been taken to a Liverpool hospital.
A police spokesman said: "I can confirm there has been a fatality.
"Two or three other people have been taken to hospital with the bends. I
don't believe their situation is life-threatening."
He added: "An RAF helicopter has been used to take the persons to hospital."

Just got back from Stoney, one diver has died... circumstances unknown.
3 injured during the same incident... circumstances unknown.
Please do not speculate over what has happened until a full statement
has been issued, their friends and family will probably be divers, or at
the very least start to look at diving related information sources and
reading heresay on the net, newsgroups etc. will only cause further worry.
Let the professionals do their job.
