The Camel Bar. Their garden pizza is nice. Just about everywhere else is
"surf & turf". No real authentic cuisine at all )-: There are some clubs,
etc. but that not my thing, so good luck if that's what you're after. The
hard rock cafe is expensive and not really worth it IMO.

Just take $15 (thats 15 US dollars) and be patient. I found the queues
getting my passport stamped, then inspected, then hassling the baggage
guys for a trolley much more frustrating. The trolley guys will fleece
you if you let them though, and look out for the others who'll remove
your baggage from the belt then charge you for it.

But do enjoy the diving!!!

I've only been once and arranged mine in advance with Tony Backhurst. So
many operators now do this that I actually waited a bit longer than a
friend who just went to the booth.

Getting through immigration took forever. Our plane was late and just
before we arrived, half of the immigration officials knocked off for the
night meaning queues merged into a big scrum.

I just go straight to one of the bank windows and hand over ten quid.
There's usually only a few people queuing. Last time I even got some
change in LE.

Watch out for the taxi drivers trying to make out that you paid in
'Pilasters' an not pounds. 50 LE =  £5...50 plas =  5p.  Tried it on us
in Hurghada last thursday until we grabbed the driver warmly by the
throat and threatened him with the Tourist Police!! Dania restaurant
to the right of McD's and upstairs [on the corner] is excellent vfm.
Pirates Bar at the Hilton [opposite Rosetta Hotel] good and cheap.  Dive
shop on the first floor of the shopping mall v v v helpful.  Fixed a
faulty inflator for us at 2300h [prior to a dive in the Blue Hole the
following day] and would not accept any payment!!

Dananeers is a good place for food especially steak.  It is next to Mc
Donalds at the end of the main road on the corner upstairs.  Camel bar
is where most divers will hang out at some stage of their holiday.  They
also have an indian restaurant under the camel bar and that is a bit
expensive but good.

Hi been to Naama bay 13 times, hers my tips

Take some warm clothes for the evenings they can be a bit chilly.

Have paitience nothing happens quickly Inch`allah." It means something
like "if Allah wants.

Tipping is expected for everything! Take and always keep some small 1or
5 LE notes (50p) with you to tip the lads who want to wheel your bags
all the other tips you'll be giving.

The airport will be a fairly stresfull experience first get your visa.
visa's cost $15 each or £12 GBP???? I take USD. The visa is actually 2
stamps and they are available directly inside the arrivals door on the
LHS at the small bank booth. No que at all the last 2 times I have been
there. Your rep will also get visa stamps for you if you wish but he
will charge ~12 GBP

There is a small duty free shop in Naama bay but you are only allowed
there up to 24 hours after arrival and you must take your passport

Take Euros for any watersport hire diving equipent and extras as they
are priced in euros and you may not get a good exchange rate from your
egyptian pounds. Trust me you will end up spending extra; 1 Euro a day
for the chamber, 20 Euro for a third dive, 30 euro for dunraven trip
etc. If you are using the Red Sea Diving College then Nitrox (if
qualified of course) is free, other centers charge 10 Euro per tank.

I take cash as it's easy, never had a problem yet. Change most of your
egyptian pounds in country you get a better  exchange rate and use the
egyptian banks not HSBC etc - same
reason. Banks only open from around 10:00 to 13:00 and
again from 18:00 to 22:00. Always ask for some small notes not
many places are happy to take a 50 or 100 Le note for a 3LE bottle
of water.

Resturants and bars; My pick of the bunch

There is a really good thai in the Hyatt hotel
(you will need a taxi).

NAAMA BAY
On top of the shopping mall in Naama bay there is a good Egyptian (can't
remember the name)
TAM TAM's - Egyptian which is situated along the sea front close to the
Hilton Fayrouz and has a nice balcony overlooking the bay.
Mashy a Lebanese is 1/2way along the main street on the left.
An excellent Indian inside of the camel hotel the chef cooks in front of
u and the restaurant is situated in a little open air square. It is
situated on the main street just past the shopping mall on the left, it
is set back a little and eaisily missed. Very popular you will need to
book Thur/Fri/Sat/Sun nights.
The Peking is a good Chinese (a little further on than Mashy above the
kodak photograhic shop). You can sit outside with a nice view over the
main street during your meal.
Dananeer an excellent seafood and steak place at the end of the main
street after thomas cook exchange on the left above last shops
(stairs up to entrance), Also very popular you will need to book
Thur/Fri/Sat/Sun nights.

OLD SHARM
Terazzina in old sharm (again will require taxi) It is right on beach
with tables next to the sea.
Sinai Star is a well known locals resturant it is in old sharm
and there is no menu you get what was caught that day and you
are seated at long tables it's seafood lots of it and very good
and cheap. (taxi required again though)

DO NOT get badgered into Ali baba's by the lads who accost you
as you walk past, never heard agood thing about this place.

NAMMA BAY BARS

Drinks are not cheap around the same as the uk. You only really get a
choice of lager the Meister is a couple of Le more than the local Stella
but well worth it. Wine is of a poor standard and expensive.

The camel bar next to the shopping mall entrance stairs on outside of
building. Two styles - inside bit of a lads pub flags and shirts all
over walls, loud music and lots of drinking. However if you go up to the
roof (turn left at entrance and then left again at end)and you have a
plush seated area on the roof that is relaxing and comfotable. Also the
bar food is very good and a very reasonable price. there is an internet
cafe there too a quid (10 Le) for 1/2 hour.
The Tavern - opposite the old taxi rank cross road from Hard Rock Cafe
turn right after the supermarket and the Tavern is a short distance in
front of you. Good bar food in here too and they do a real sunday lunch.
Pirates Bar - Attached to the Hilton fayroz hotel, good cheap bar food
again.
As for nightclubs well..... not much good really there is the
obligitory Hard Rock Cafe, the No1 spot and the bus stop. They are all
expensive and tacky....Not my scene.

I've never found any time outside of diving for anything but eating and
drinking so I'll stop here.

Just returned ... and it was great ... thanks for the tips..

Apart from Camel bar roof top did not like Naama bay much... found Old Sharm
much better, went to beach bar you advised .. pretty good, as long as you
don't mind loads of Russians,
Two places we eat there which were good were .. Red Sea Fish ... at the
entrance to Old Market (Terrazina end)  ... and across the road (Blue signs
above shop) a place where all meat is cooked outside on BBQ .. much used by
locals.
Tip - neither of these sell booze, but happy for you to carry cans or wine
in.

Airport was nice & slick on way in ... noticed that the guys 'charging' for
the trolleys have no set price, got ours for 1 Euro, others paying £2 .

On way back it was totally disorganised .. first off they had forget the
clocks changed a few days previously so many flights were out by an hour ...
so loads turned up too early.
We had the check-in desk change 4 times, in the end checked in at desk that
said 'Gatwick  for the Bristol flight ...
When the called the flight to gate ... they also called 1 German & 2 Russian
flights ... all trying to get through 1 scanner & X-ray machine.
When you then came to gate it became a huge crush, there was some fighting,
one woman had a panic attack, and another fainted .... police started
shouting (no help just shouting)   and Russians just started pushing harder
& harder.
It really was very dangerous at one point.

Maybe things were worse due to the bombings last week ?   or this is just
the way things are.

Read in the local English language paper that morning ... Egypt announced
intent to increase tourism from 5 million a year to 15 million a year over
next 5 years ...   so it will get a lot worse.
