Off to Tunisia in two weeks time, anybody got any feedback on the dive
centre based in Port El Kantaoui ?

I'll let you know, going there in two days time for a week.

Yes: it sucks!

I was there 4 years ago. It's situated at the far end of the marina and
you can only get there on foot (nice work out though).

I was guaranteed that I would go out with expereinced divers, only to
find out that I was on a boat with 4 absolute newbies (who only got on
the boat just before he left, so too late for me to find out).

The dive sites themselves are worthless (well, the ones we went to
were): some rocks almost void of any life.

As promised, a full report follows......

I can't tell you what the diving is like, although after some shore
snorkelling I can well believe that there isn't much to see (as mentioned in
the other reply).

First off, the dive centre staff are probably the most unhelpful people I
met all week, they didn't really seem to be interested at all in taking out
qualified divers, just novices.

Alarm bells started to ring when I asked what dive sites there were and
where the nearest deco facilities were. I'm still waiting for an answer to
this one....

When I asked about hiring equipment I asked to see what they use. I'd
brought my own regs away with me (never trusting anyone elses). They
wouldn't even show me any of their hire gear. The sound of those bells was
staring to get really loud now!

In the end I decided that I'd rather see some of Tunisia's archaeological
sights than give my cash to this lot. I love diving but I'd rather deal with
people who are interested in what they do and be upfront with their
potential customers.

There's an interesting thread on (I think) the Yorkshire Diver's forum about
this centre. A search on google will bring it up. I'll leave you to form
your own conclusions.....

They also claim to be a PADI resort. Shame PADI don't mention them?

Anyway, on a more practical note, the sea is about 14 degrees at the moment.
Too cold even to swim/ snorkel. The best I managed was 10 minutes octopus
spotting. But beware, they don't stay around long, the local speargun boys
tend to collect them all in about 30 minutes flat.

All in all, in my opinion don't bother. You may find differently.
