I've been searching for a useful map of Sharm for some time, and I have
found a reasonable one. A common problem is being given the name of an hotel
on offer, and not knowing exactly where it is. Many places CLAIM to be in
Sharm, only to find when you get there that the name Sharm was used as a
magnet to ge you to book - you really are miles away.

At http://www.key2egypt-holidays.co.uk/maps.asp you can click to see a
number of maps, including one of Naama bay itself. Not to scale, but you can
see whether the claim to be "in the centre of activity in this lively
resort" is justified.

Yes this was the best I'd found up until the one I referred to, which gives
far more detail of hotels on Naama Bay's seafront- though overall the one
you refer to is better.

That map is pretty okay, but there is a LOT of hotels missing in Naama Bay.

The point is, they're not in Naama Bay if they're not in Naama Bay! They may
CLAIM to be there or very close to it, while in reality the statement "close
to Naama Bay" should be followed by "when compared to the hotel's distance
to Cairo"!

If you're not within walking distance of the independent town centre,
meaning restaurants, bars, banks, shops which have nothing to do with any of
the hotels, then you're stuck in your hotel paying their price for food,
drinks, exchange rate etc. unless you take a taxi or courtesy bus, which may
or may not be convenient. Pay your money, make you choice. There are as many
correct answers to this as there are holidaymakers. Personally, if on a
diving holiday when I'm going to be away from my hotel for most of the time
I prefer to stay in a lesser hotel as I find there's no point paying for
facilities I never use. Being in the town centre means addionally I have a
greater selection of restaurants to choose from every evening.

HAHA, good one, but very true, it like a hotel saying 'private beach'
sure, 20 minutes with a bus first.

I could not agree more, when i am away on holiday in Sharm, i am on a
diving boat from about 0800 till late afternoon, then get a few drinks,
then dinner, then back to hotel to sleap.

Next morning, same procedure.

But i sure prefer LiveABoard, specially after living in Sharm el Sheikh
for 6 month :)

You know I've never done a liveaboard, but I am toying with the idea. I've
spent some time aboard a boat before (sailing a square rig), so it's not the
idea of floating for a week that bothers me. There are a few things that
concern me about a liveaboard though. What if I get aboard a boat that
sleeps 10 (for example) to find that apart from my buddy and me, the other 8
bunks are taken by a group booking of people we just don't get on with at
all? Stuck for a week with people you can't stand! At least on a land based
trip you get a respite every evening. Then, with no time to waste getting to
and from the boat there's nothing to do but dive - great, that's what I came
for - but ( I read about) 5 - 6 dives each day? Heck, I'm exhausted by the
end of the week when I've done 2 or 3 dives each day, what would I be like
after doing 5 or 6? I suppose I could NOT dive sometimes, but that's even
more crazy!

Even with a group booking, the odds are that they will not all be "best
friends", and you are almost certain to get on with some of them. I've
done 2 liveaboards, one as a single diver, and one with our dive club.
On both trips, there seemed to be a bit of a split in terms of interests
and attitudes, but both were pleasant and I would do them again - in
fact i would probably go as a single, rather than with the club.

Typically, they seem to be geared towards 4 dives a day, including a
night dive. On the trips I've done, I did 2 or 3 dives a day, and no
night dives, and this was enough for me - others did every dive!

In the time between dives, you will be eating, chatting, sleeping,
sunbathing, reading, messing with your gear etc.. I dont know anyone on
the two trips who was short of something to do.

Go for it!!

Oh all right then! The things I do to keep everyone happy!  :)) Now need to
try and talk the annual Jan/Feb outing into considering a liveaboard instead
of a boat-and-board.
