Time for DM! BSAC or PADI

Before I start! Please do not progress this into a BSAC vs PADI bashing
thread!

So far I have completed up to Rescue with PADI, and have been diving at this
level for a couple of years.

I now feel like it is time to progress to Divemaster, and become more
involved with training. Quite what happens next (i.e work as DM, progress to
instructor) I am not sure yet.

As competion of DM require working with students, it occured to me that
maybe I should considering BSAC, which would provide more opportunities in
this area than PADI.

I am sure some people here are PADI DM certified, or BSAC Leader - How do
the two compare in training, what is your view? and if you wish to progress
further are the two interchangeable? Finally if you wish to work as a DM -
is the PADI cert more universal?

Any thoughts?

You must be mistaking us for another UK based diving community...

Ah, sounding a bit familiar...

I crossed over into BSAC as a Sports Diver (from PADI RD) and I'm nearly
finished Dive Leader and I've done the Practical Rescue Management SDC
(which was really good...) with a view to doing my Instructor Foundation
Course next year.

It depends what you want out of your teaching really, I don't want to do it
as a job so I'm doing it BSAC. I would say that if you want to make a
career of it you might want to think PADI. If you just want to teach people
to dive in the pool and in open water on your own time and for fun then
BSAC. I'd imagine, as with most things with the two agencies that quality
and standards of teaching will be much the same.

Interchangability is rarely an issue these days, most agencies will happily
swap people and cross-train and what not.
