Lee Bell - 20 Apr 2005 16:27 GMT My sincere thanks to Pete S. for providing a forum for me to share my Everglades photos. I hope you guys (ladies included) enjoy them as much as I enjoy sharing them.
Florida is a diver's heaven, but it's not the only place in the US that you can dive. It is the only place in the US, or the world, for that matter, that has the Everglades.

If not, I presume they soon will be.

The key to sucessfully sharing stuff on the web is to TELL US WHERE THEY ARE!
;-)

I can see I'm going to have to activate the webspace Earthlink provides with my account.

Lee Bell - 25 Apr 2005 00:08 GMT > The Floridians proudly state that Key Largo is the diving capital of the > world. Hmm . . . . Not so. Northerners who moved to and opened businesses in Florida claim it is. They are not Floridians.
Years ago, I read reports that Molasses Reef was visited by more divers annually than any other dive site in the world. I don't think I've seen anybody try to refute that. If that makes Florida the capital, so be it. It does not make Florida the best diving in the world. As nice as our diving is, there is better. What makes Florida so special for divers is the variety of diving and life and the easy of accessing it. Our fringing reefs, all 200 plus miles of them are from less than 1 to just over 3 miles from shore.

The term redneck originated in the farming areas of the US. After a day working in the fields, they came home with red necks. The term evolved to suggest somebody that was unsophisticated and, eventually, to mean those who are intolerant of those that are different. Rednecks tend to try to impose their prejudices on others. By the original definition, there aren't a lot of rednecks in Florida. By the more recent version, there once was a lot of them. There no longer are.
Cracker is a term that originated in Florida. It comes from the cattle herders who would crack the heads off moccosins with their bullwhips. They are a close knit group consisting entirely of people that were born and grew up in Florida. They're not particularly intolerant of people who are different. Rather, they are indifferent to everybody that isn't a Cracker. They are somewhat actively intollerant of those who would impose their will or way of life on them. Crackers eat rednecks for lunch, when rednecks are foolish enough to cross paths with them.
I am a Cracker. Since I, a Cracker, invited you guys to a UKRS trip to Florida, you need not worry about rednecks.

When this picture showed up via rec.scuba, I posed the question "what would they do if the steel tank had not, eventually, punctured?" Personally, I would not have been willing to go pick it up with several near penetration hits and, for the sake of public safety, I also would not have been willing to leave it there for somebody else to find. My final answer was, get a more suitable weapon. 8^)

Lee Bell - 25 Apr 2005 12:58 GMT >> > http://www.benpanter.co.uk/stuff/Tank_Shootout_Final.wmv > [quoted text clipped - 6 lines] > bigger > gun ;-) Ahhh, and that's a standard UK misunderstanding. 8^) The "more suitable weapon" I referred to is not bigger. In fact, it's considerably smaller. Come visit and I'll show it to you . . . or look at any clip of US military action over the last 30 years or so. Mine is a Colt AR-15 HB, the heavy barrel target version of the US military issue rifle. I originally purchased it to take the place of my 1909 Mauser Argentino, which fires the same round as the Garand they used for the clip, in military weapon target competitions sponsored by the US Government. I found it amusing that, at the time the US was banning "assault weapons" (the definition of which has nothing to do with their suitability for assault), the same government was sponsoring target competition that required the use of a military weapon. At any rate, this is getting too close to a rec.scuba topic. I'll move on to more fully answer Ben's question.
These guys are rednecks, not Crackers. This is evident in three ways: 1. They didn't use the right weapon/ammunition. A Cracker would have put a hole in the steel tank with the first shot. 2. The group on the steel tank was large. No self respecting Cracker would show a pattern of shots like that. 3. These guys are in California where, as everybody knows, the US humanely keeps our insane.

I still think you guys should schedule a group trip to Florida. Several have visited one at a time. A group visit would have to be even better.
