Airlines & Scuba Baggage Allowances - website?

Hi,

A few months ago there was a discussion on airline baggage allowances
for scuba gear, e.g. Thomas Cook allow an extra 10Kg.

Someone very kindly produced a website which gave several airlines
policies in a searchable format, and I thought I had bookmarked it, but
I havent.

Any ideas - 2 of us are flying to Sharm on Air Atlanta Europe in May,
(possibly the worst airline in the world??), and I want to find out
their policy on scuba gear, as well as upgrade to better seats if it is
possible.

Or does anyone have a phone number for Air Atlanta?

I have googled till I drop, and cant find the reference - no doubt
someone will come up with it in a few seconds by googling <g>)

Had a discussion with someone over the whole Air Atlanta thing - they will
be operating under Excel's guidelines on the Sharm route so you can assume
the same allowances (although it would be wise to check...).  I haven't got
them on the database though so if you do ring them, let me know the outcome.

http://www.atlanta.is/ should help.

Calum,

Great site, very useful info, but you might want to check the
line-wrapping. The 'Monarch' entry comes up as one very long line
(Firefox, HTML4/CSS2 compliant)

Derek,

Thanks, I'll sort that wrapping, I hacked it together very quickly and
(foolishly) whacked everything into <pre/> tags.

Not all the text on the DB is, of course, preformatted...  :(

There doesnt seem to be any specific traveller contact info here, (or on
Air Atlanta Europe site). They all seem refer you to the "operator" or
travel agent. (Again, I could be missing something).

We are travelling with Panorama Holidays, and my agent has called them
to find that they dont offer an upgrade service.

Having been on 2 planes chartered from Air Atlanta, (1 x Excel & 1 x Air
Algerie), both had premium seats at the front.

Atlanta seem to have more to do with Excel than meets the eye.  They used to
just charter planes to them but there seems to be a stronger bond these days
(as Rads and I spent some time discussing...).

If you get any more information out of them, do let me know.

Google keeps an archive of UKRS, which can be searched. Follow the
link, put" Atlanta" into the search this group box and voila!

Hi

We travelled Air Atlanta Europe to sharm last july, if they are using the
same plane then it's a jumbo and only the upper deck is premium (ala 1st
class) with ~16 seats. the rest of the plane is kitted out with economy
seating.

Phone excel to check on avaialbility of the premium seats, thats what we
did. Excel run the flight and the seating. We had to actually book the
upgrade via our travel agent though (explorers).

You won't regret it the upper deck is loooovely. If you can get a seat up
there explorers charged between 85 and 125 quid per seat (depending on how
far ahead you book it) and you get all the 1st class extras such as waiter
service, edible food, free drink, decent entertainment, huge seats etc. but
best of all you get 40 yes you read correctly 40kg luggage allowance ahhhh
the luxury of it. Can't remember which line I used but I think the first
one, you'll need the flight number and dates.

possibly the worst airline in the world?? very possibly the 125 quid was
well worth it as after an hours delay on the way back we were stuck on the
runway for another 2 hours + in 30 degrees with no airconditioning whilst
they refulled the plane with a bucket!!! (well very small fuel truck
anyway). The economy passengers started a revolt downstairs as they were
getting sick ans were not even given water whilst we upstairs although still
uncomfortable were at least being feed iced water/juice/champagne.

Panorama Holidays say that there is no option to upgrade - I'll have a
go with Excel.

> Hi,

Just a quick heads up about 1st Choice Airlines.
Flown with them on loads of occasions without issue until last week on a
flight to Lanzarote.
Was carrying 23k, so they tried to sting me for 3k of excess baggage. I
pointed out my previous flights and told them i was carrying dive gear. Was
told i should have got a letter stating this to get my extra 10k, so tough
luck this time.
I complained to the service desk who put me onto someone else, was asked to
provide a c-card, which i did and was duly let off the excess charge.
I also had my hand luggage weighed for the 1st time ever as well. must be
part of a clamp down?

As a footnote, this only happened on the outbound flight from Gatwick, on
the return i had no problems at all, and hand luggage wasn't weighed either.
