Well,

Just got the results of the state of my shoulder.

No swimming, golf, heavy lifting, diving [1] or fun [2] for the
next few months.

There's a bit more damage needs to be fixed yet.

Not too happy at the moment :-(

[1] Even abroad before you start Jones :-)

[2] However I can still go Skiing apparently, go figure.

The doc must be planning on giving you an anti-falling-over-and
-landing-on-your-shoulder note then?
Cheers

Yeah I thought it odd.

Apparently with the diving he's worried about
potential pressure changes inside the joint, and
bits of calcium build up detatching.

As he's a Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon not
a diving doc I suppose I'll do as I'm told.

With the Skiing I suppose there's not alot of shoulder use,
falls are (fairly) soft, and he's got to operate again
anyway so what more damage can I do? :-)

More likely, he simply does not understand the risks.  Since it's a
shoulder, however, he may be concerned about the movement required to get in
and out of kit.  Who knows.

Good idea.  There will still be diving when you're healed.

Maybe the falls are easy where you ski.  I ski hardpack and there's nothing
soft about my falls.

As for what more damage you can do, I think that's a question you'd rather
not answer the hard way.

Take it easy, heal and get on with your life, diving any otherwise,  This
too shall pass.

Dave for what it is worth, when my arthritis was diagnosed my consultant
said that he thought that the compression caused my diving was a
benefit, and that I should continue.

I can only add some anecdotal but personal experience.

After a week or two diving on high O2's my joints ache less.

Hi Steve

I'm very interested in what you've just said about the arthritis. Could I be
so bold as to ask what form you have?
I'm mid thirties and suffering (as are most of my family) from the 'wear and
tear' type...
The doc said that I'd be lucky to get new hips and knees until I was
sixty....
So anything that might bring a tad of relief would be much appreciated...
not to mention the diving points potential with the wife if it we a
necessary medicinal treatment every weekend!!!!

cheers

That's what I was thinking - it was exactly the lack of such a note that
buggered my shoulder - still gives me gyp every so often (when I need it
to...  :-) ).

You are assuming, of course, that I would be heartless enough to even
mention that refraining from diving would hardly be an inconvenience for
you. But while we are on the subject it don't really make any difference
does it?  ;-)
