Hello there !

Any ideas where  I could get some drawings to build my own backplate to suit
my diverite jacket ?

Thank you for your help.

Bye bye from France.

The Combro backplate was made to these drawings.
They are AutoCAD DWG format. The drawing with
dimensions and borders was the drawing received. The
drawing with just an outline was used for laser cutting.

Let's hope someone picks up where you left off, Nigel - the death of the
UKRS plate was a sad, sad day indeed...

BTW - Nice to meet you again at the weekend! :-)

It's not such a problem now. OK nobody will be as cheap
but we were not really making enough on it to more than
cover the paperwork. As I was given the first drawing I have
always felt obligated to pass on that drawing and our
modifications FOC at anybody who asks so I will leave
them on the site. All you need is a laser cutter and a big
bending press or, as we had, suppliers with them.

Hi Nigel
Im in the same boat  and was horrified at the price of Backplates
So i got one of my suppliers to knock out a batch for a local dive
shop
Its a pity the prices of Stainless keep rocketing.
Did you make your plates our of   316 full marine grade   or  304
???
304 is a lot cheaper and IMHO ;) is perfectly suitable for service as
a back plate  BUT its difficult to convince some people.
But for the small numbers its a real pain to sort out
any body want   100 off ???

316. I have one from the first batch and it is unmarked
5 years and 340 plates later. I don't think 304 would
manage that. I didn't think it was much cheaper, just a
bit easier to work with cutting tools. Since we lasered
and bent it and passed it on unfinished it didn't impact
us. I admit that for a finished product 304 might save
a few bob.

Perhaps prices have shifted and I'm out of touch.

Although 304 is not as corrosion resistant to salt water as 316.

It was making a significant difference
  but as i did get a quote about 18mths ago where 50off 304 3mm
plates where £13 each its still a large percentage of the
manufacturing cost the differnece does diminish as a percentage when
the sale proice is Jacked up to £100 - £200

But  on my latest quotes its only £4 for 3mm  and £7 on a 5mm plate
(difference between 304 & 316) But manufacturing costs are 3-4 times
on the 10 to 15 off batches.
Like you  Nigel  im doing this using Works Contacts  but i would
love to be able to  order a  large batch of  say  100 off and get a
good price  as well as  try a few other  Stainless ideas

I agree 304 is less resistant than 316    BUT i do think 304 is fit
for purpose and a backplate  its a very large lump that is rinced ( or
should be ) at least in a semi regular  way  and not a small intricate
thing thats going to Jam if a spot of rust does appear  nor is it
strapped to a boat and open to wind and salt spray 365days a year

If you want an aluminium backplate then I have some for sale.

Fully finished and hard anodised.

Regards,

Tony.
