Hi there i have been using a Green force compact 100 with an F2 battery
pack until last week when it got pinched, adn will now be looking to replace
it probably go for same again wondering though if anyone had any
recomendations for an umbilical Hid torch i can mount on a goodmans handle,
witha at least a 90 minute burn time, and preferably a smaller head than the

How about the Halcyon Proteus 3 10W HID?
It's got a two hour burn time, goodmans handle and a pretty compact
head. Avoid the variable focus model though as there is a problem with
it and just stick to the fixed focus.
A good bit of which I'm well happy with

My small CD one has a 4-5 hour burn time...

Well if this is going to turn into a pissing contest, perhaps you should
check out the Helios 9 HID instead - it gives 8 hours burn time... ;-)

Just out of interest Gordon - how much did you pay for it?

?400 IIRC. At a dive show 2 (maybe 2.5?) years ago. At the NEC IIRC, so
might be coming up for 3 years now. But maybe it's only 2, ye gods my
memory is shot. There were a few others got them at the same time, so
they might remember...
I'm still on the original bulb too.
It's great with the Inspiration as the canister sits in the top weight
pouch, although I've heard that it will sit into a wing or stab. jacket
emergency cylinder pouch too...

I must admit that I wasn't chuckling either Nigel.
The glass had broken on my bulb but was still held in place by the lens
and the bulb still worked. As the bulbs aren't exactly cheap it does
p*ss one of slightly!
Apparently the are 'now aware' of the problem and intend to sort it out
in future torches!

Probably a collar or a sleeve to stop it winding that far forwards.
I twisted it to open the focus up and went the wrong way.
The focus opened as expected and there was no different
feel. If you are spending that amount of money (80+ quid)
you should at least get a satisfying *crunch*.
It didn't actually stop working until next time I fired
it up as the thing is merely a protective 'test tube' but
it must have flopped about in the mean time and destroyed
the parts it normally protects.
Nice torch when it works. I have the bigger battery pack
so it will do a big weekends diving without a charge.

There is? Do tell. Mine has been absolutely fine.
The other thing you need to know about Holycon torches is that it
is a good idea to put a snoopy loop around the clips. Otherwise they
may come unclipped when you jump into the water from the deck of a boat.

Wind the focus too far forward and the bulb presses
up against the glass with a fine thread pushing.
I wasn't exactly amused.

Well, I am still at a loss to understand why any sentient rational
being such as yourself would do this. On the other hand I don't
understand why it's necessary to print 'Silica gel - do not eat' on
those funny little packets that you get in a new box of shoes.

Hey less of this "sentient rational being" lark. I'm
a task loaded monkey in big fat gloves grouping at
something on the back of his right hand. I don't know
which way I turned it but it went from a beam to a
flood just like I hoped. It just never switched on
again afterwards.
I'm going to be a lot more careful next time but I
didn't expect a built in self destruct mode.

A Holycon piece of kit with dodgy clips, surely you must be mistaken!
Wasn't that reason ten in the infamous list?

Well it has a switch which doesn't make it better.

I use a Dive Rite Slim Line, 10W HID, 4 hour burntime, 560 euros at the
German dive show early this year, can be used with goodman handle. I like
it, although a little bit more light would be helpful. I was told that the
18W HID from Dive Rite is no good and is no longer produced.
