Hi all,

I'm off to the Red Sea for the first time with my wife for 1 or 2 weeks in
late September. Ideally we'd like somewhere with good diving (doh!) and
which hasn't been too touristified yet. Also somewhere with something to do
in between dives would be nice as we get bored silly on the beach. Which of
the main resorts is best for this? I'm thinking the furthest away from Sharm
the better, but I suspect that might be over-simplistic... Any ideas?

TIA

Greg

Hi Greg

We were in Dahab about an hour further north form Sharm but a world away
when it comes to touristy and commercialism.  There are some good dive
centres there, we went with Reef 2000 www.reef2000.org and Stayed in the
Bedouin Moon hostel attached to it for the second week, after spending a
week at the Hilton Dahab. I have also seen some other operators there and
they seem good!  We done all shore dives which were fantastic and easy
going.  The place was fabulous and friendly and easygoing!  I think there is
a dive operator (Sharks Bay) also in Dahab worth a look.  The village is
nice and there are organised camel dive safari's to Ras Abu Gollum (a
national park) which is really beautiful.  The Bedouin are very welcoming.

HTH

Enjoy your trip

Ka:-)

Dahab.  Close to Sharm, but much more Egyptian (the resort is mostly Bedouin
owned) we have been a couple of times now and stayed in both the Coral Key
hotel and the Christina Palace Hotel which were both nice (I would recommend
the Christina Palace Hotel as the better of the two).

Each time we have dived with http://www.poseidondivers.com/ who were
fantastic.  If you want more details and some photos (Above and bellow the
surface) have a root round my homepage [shameless plug :-)]

Personally I would much rather spend a week in Dahab than a week in Sharm,
but be warned I like camping so Dahab's somewhat grubby Bedouin charm suits
me.
