Slighty off the diving subject I have to admit but have any rib owners or
dive clubs any advice on the following problem. Our dive club has what we
believe is a Carson 6mtr RIB, however it is currently suffering from tubes
that have met the end of there life, does anyone know where we can obtain
new tubes either off the shelf or made to measure, we are fairly sure they
will have to be made specially as we can find no information on carson ribs
on the internet, so any contacts of companies specialising in replacement of
rib tubes would be very usefull.

I would think that the price would be a prohibative factor in this.
To replace all the tubes would require a complete rebuild from
the hull up and I think that that would be too time consuming and
expensive, even if you get the right tube layout to do it with.
I would be tempted to consider covering most of the surfaces of
the old tubes with new material. I had a simerlar problem with an
old humber work boat and I bought new material and glue. I then
covered the keel and side tubes very successfuly. I know you
don't need the keel covering so that should make the job easier.
to cover the existing tubes would be for easier and cost effective (IMHO)

Cheers taz.

Ask around some of the other RIB manufacturers.  One or more may be happy to
help.  A close friend of mine recently had the tubes replaced on his very
custom RIB.  The RIB, originally designed as one of those flying boats, has
a modified hull and stacked tubes, perhaps 8 inches in diameter.  Nautica,
which happens to be reasonably local to us, was happy to replace the
original double tubes with new single tubes, at least 18 inches in diameter.
They also reinforced the transom and sold him a new 4 stroke motor, all for
less than the price of a new RIB.

If they could modify his inflatable so successfully, they surely can fix
yours . . . if you can find one of them that would like the good word of
mouth advertising they would get on UKRS>

We had the same problem recently and I looked into getting the boat
re-tubed. (5.5m Tornado). The quotes were in the region of ?2500 - ?3000. As
the boat is 15 years old and showing signs of age we decided to replace the
Hull/Tubes bit and move the noisy and shiny things from the old boat.

One of the firms I spoke to was:
http://www.olmectubing.co.uk/contact.html who were very helpful.

Also there are:

Good Luck
