I am currently compiling an information sheet on the wreck of the Glen
Strathallan for my club.

I would appreciate any info people might have on this wreck - history,
how and when it sank, what to look out for when diving it, transits
and anything else that might be of interest.

Cheers,
Marc

Oi, that's cheating Marc!!!

But  ... while we're asking - Can people help me out over info on Hatt
Rock

(Voyage plan - the coordinates and the waypoints, plus the
distances...)

GPS (have some - wish to check)

strength of current (knots) on springs/neaps in hourly
intervals

I've googled, looked at UKRS, Dive Devon, Dive South Cornwall and have
built up http://www.trevr.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/scuba/d_hatt_rock.htm
but some info (the above) is still missing.

Well I would have thought that Google would have been a good place to
start. But failing that have a look at my website for some basic info on
wrecks www.clearviz.co.uk

However a further tip for the Glen S, don't bother it's a waste of time.
The only thing to be said about it is that it has a boiler.

I was going to say that but I thought it may be unfair.  It is easily
the worst wreck I have ever done and that includes the Stanegarth ;-)

Oh and it has some net on it too.  I was so bored when I did it, I
took out my knife and tried to make myself a wig from it.

Google was a good place to start, uk.rec.scuba seemed a good place
to find out more :)

Agreed, it is a bit dull. I was hoping that maybe I (and everyone
else doing that dive) just missed all the interesting bits, but guess
we found everything that was worth finding.

Thanks,

Really surprised by how negative everyone's comments are about this dive site.
I dived it yesterday, 3rd May 09 and thought it was a lovely little dive,
ideal as a second dive.
If you are looking for a large intact wreck this site is not for you, I would
describe it as a scenic dive with pieces of wreckage.  Having said that the
bits of wreckage are teaming with life, beautifully coloured wrass, dog fish
and bib.  I saw an edible crab living in one of the boiler tubes that must at
least 25CM across.  The vis was good, the site is easy to find, just a
stones throw south of shag rock and the boiler shows up pretty clearly on the
sounder.  7 Club members dived it (all for the first time) and we all loved
it.
Judging by the very mixed reaction this site gets, I think it might be one of
those dive sites which is better dived at certain times of the year.
Certainly the site next to it, "Mewstone Ledges" is a great dive in late
spring / early summer but gets ruined by excessive kelp growth later in the
year.  We also had the advantage of diving on neap tides and with good
weather so maybe that makes a difference.
