Hi all,

I've been using a rental Oceanic Shadow Titanium 5mm 3 piece semidry up
until now and I'm looking to buy one of my own. The Oceanic has been
brilliant, but is rather expensive in comparison to the competition.

Has anyone got any recommendations? (other than a dry suit)

Cheers

With a semi you are looking at fit and thickness. Despite the
hype there isn't as much difference between two 5mm suits from
different makers than there is between a 5 and a 7. You really
want snug so there is everything to be gained by going and
trying one on. The less water there is inside the suit the warmer
you will be and the more of a bitch it will be to put on. Add an
extra layer to get more body thickness and wear a good hood if
you are cold.

Anything second hand

If you are going to dive in the UK you _will_ buy a dry suit, if you
buy a semi new you will loose loads of money - buy second hand and you
can sell it on for about the same as you bought it for

Few people from our club bought some ex-school Mares ones for £50 each
recently on the basis they can dive in them this year and next when
they have more money they have not lost too much

Personal opinion, but there is no better semi-dry than the Shadow.
I've failed to find one yet, and I've been through a few.

Yes, I'd have to agree that the Shadow is an excellent semi-dry but the
O'three semi-dries are also worth considering as they're a) cheaper than the
Oceanic and b) O'three will make minor modifications to make them fit
better...
