Can anyone recommend a good decompression theory book plese?  Any good
websites on the subject would help also.  Getting an Inspiration shortly and
would like a more in-depth view of deco theory.
Regards,  Mark.

That may well be understandable, but it's for girls.

Try Bruce Weinke's book for some proper bedtime reading.

Basic Decompression, Theory and Application by Bruce R. Wienke
(published by Best Publishing, second edition 2003, ISBN
1-930536-14-3).

Don't be fooled by the word "basic". I read through most of it now and
I am having a hard time to understand about half. Being a lawyer and
reading a book for doctors, physiologists, engineers etc might have
something to do with it, though.

Speaking as someone with a reasonable scientific background, albeit a
relative novice diver, I found the Weinke book to be at a "difficult" level,
but clear and precise if you make the effort and have enough maths (at least
A level or equivalent) if that makes sense.. Another book which might catch
your eye called "the decompression matrix" is much easier level - and just
the level I wanted -  but very muddled in its explanations and very hard to
understand what the bloke is actually on about. . It's very nearly a good
book but as it is it's hopeless and needs a re-write IMHO - which is a pity.

Many thanks for the details, I'll give it a look.

Any idea of a source for that book in the UK?  I can find the old edition on
Amazon, but nothing on any dive shop websites or anything... any ideas on
where we can find it?

Neils,

Any idea of anywhere that will have it in stock please?  Don't have a local
bookshop so anywhere will do!!

Hey - I'm making very heavy weather of chapter one...and I _am_ a doctor!

You don't actually need to know much about decompression to dive an
Inspriation - you can dive one with tables or just about any Nitrox
computer without any problems.

Eg. see http://lists.drogon.net/inspiration/aladdin.html for
tables to let you use an aladin Nitrox or any other 1 (or even multi)
mix Nitrox computer.

Along with all the other referenced posted, you might want to look
at Lipmans "Deeper into Diving" if it's still in print. This gives an
overview of some of the "Neo-Haldane" models (and BSAC-88).

Bear in-mind that just about every text on deco theory will be talking
about fixed FN2 and FHe (ie. as in open circuit diving) and not fixed
ppO2 which we do with closed circuit diving.

Cheers, Gordon.

One of the problems I have is I am bllind, so the nitrox computers are not
much use.  The only talking one that was on the market is no longer made.  I
will have to rely on tables and pc based deco planning programs.  It is for
this reason I would like to know a bit more about the figures I am plugging
into the PC, so I can make a more educated assessment of what they are
telling me.  I am more after an introduction to the various terms and
figures used than the whole line on how to program your own algorithm.  I
think the Weink book suggested might be a bit beyond my needs!

Erm... I'm probably being stoopid. but if you are blind how are you
going to read the handsets on the inspiration?

Danny

The box said windows 98 or better, so I installed Linux

...And gets it *completely* wrong ;-(

Other that that, it's a fine book (if a little dated).
