Due to me being a complete **** and forgetting to fit the O ring I've
flooded and ruined my lovely UKD4R torch.
(At least it was only my torch and not my regs, which might have been more
embarasing)
Cost of replacement parts, battery and lens, are about the same as a new
torch so I'm in the market....
I'm having a dig around eBay and seeing torches with LEDs instead of bulbs
for a lot less than a UKD4R.
e.g.

and

Anyone ever used these? What's the performance like? Durability?
They seem too good to be true and I suspect they might be.

Never used either of the two you mention, but from experience with other LED
torches they really are no match for a traditional bulb - they're good for
lighting up gauges, looking at things closely, and may be just about enough
to see something in warm, clear waters, but they certainly have never been
anything near the brightness of a main torch. Durability should be good,
they'll run for ages on little batteries, and LEDs last pretty much forever.
I'd say that if you get one, then get it as a backup to a halogen-type lamp.

Well if they're anything like the Greenforce 'Tristar' LED head that I used
to own, I'd say steer well clear. Greenforce quote an output figure of
30watts but there was no way it was even close! I ended up selling the
Tristar and bought a Prohead instead - fitted with a 50w daylight bumb
(thanks Wilbo), it's almost as good as a 10w HID in my opinion!

A mate of mine borrowed and used a Greenforce Led torch recently on a dive
our of Dover. I think that it was also the 'Tristar' one.
I've seen brighter bioluminescence............
