Is Naut Tech Ltd in Canterbery still going? The telephone number for them on
all of the lists is a private house. They used to be Hartenberger dealers
(my torch needs repair) and on telephoning Hartenberger in Germany they tell
me that they do not have a UK dealer.

No, they've closed down.

They went out of business over a year ago, alas. What's happened
to your torch then? Mine is still going strong.

It was me rather than the torch. I fell off a boat ladder the other weekend,
got hung up on the torch head. Unbeknown to me the cable had pulled out of
the gland on the torch head, I went back in, the head flooded. It's now
"always on", the full overdrive 50w+ blast and I have no control. I've blown
the switching electronics.

But having looked at it I suspect that it may have leaked a little before.
The weak point seems to be the cable, it's quite rigid and tough. When I
took it apart to try a 'dry out' I noticed that the cable gland had
compressed the cable considerably. Might be worth remaking the cable gland
onto a fresh bit of cable on yours Keith, they are about the same age.

So I phoned Hartenberger in Germany, I'm sending it back there for a full
service, fix, test and rebuild - probably be something over ?100 all in. I'm
having one of those "Al" years so far ;-) The Aladin needed a new battery,
the analyser needed a new cell, my dry suit is in for a new zip, the torch
is f*cked. All in all the few dives I've managed so far this year have been
bloody expensive :-)

Keith - on from this I'm getting the rubber mats this coming Monday, and as
you know we've re-positioned the ladder.  You first :-)   I'm keepin the
twin set on with help.

If it's any consolation my Aladin, which is the upgraded one from yours,
needs a new (elasticated) strap, battery is fine though.  Now I wish I had
the one I bought Tania !  It's a Nitrox one too, the Ultra, with the watch
strap configuration.  The upgraded straps frey, and I've been quoted a
week's down time (which means 10 days) and some unknown price for a
replacement.  Anyone else had this problem ?  Thing is I *LIKE* the Aladin,
it's easy to programme for nitrox (I'm thick with buttons) and the display
is large (going slightly blind in my old age) but I will ask if they do the
watch strap configuration for this model.  Anyone else know ?

The torch is back, pretty good service IMHO although it's cost me 130 quid
all in (OUCH!!), but then I'm glad that's the only thing to ever go wrong
with it.

It cost me 15 quid to send it (insured) and it then took 10 days to reach
them! They got it last Tues and immediately emailed me a quote for a
complete rebuild, new electrics, new cable, bits & pieces and a full cell
and pressure test. Bit of a faff paying them (fax or email a copy of your
cc) but they turned it around in 3 days and posted it back last Thursday, it
arrived today.

Good people to deal with, they answer the phone, they respond to emails, a
complete breakdown of the parts cost was sent to me. Make sure they address
things right for UK addresses though, it was only the skill of the UPS guy
that got it back to me :-)

So, all in all, cheaper than a new 50w torch, even though they no longer
have a UK dealer they are very keen to support their products.

Regards

Keith L
