Did anyone dive dear the IOW, Selsey or the Nab tower this weekend ?  I went
out on a boat in the Solent and the surface of the water was covered in
plankton, it was like porridge. Just if anyone has any viz reports, I want
to try and get wet this weekend.

Lots of fluff in the water off Brighton this weekend.
Still light at 30m but getting pretty gloomy at 40.
Vis about one diver length so 2 meters ish. I think
we normally clear just a bit after places west of us.

We did the U1195 with Dave on Sunday - 12m vis, followed by the Mulberry 1-2
green metres.  Near shore viz is pants.

The previous weekend we had 6-8m on the Gasconey, low water Sapper dive
5meters, high water Sapper - Sish had 12m+

Thanks both.  Dave emailed me off group.  I was thinking of doing the
Camswan and then a drift off the Princess Shoals - I could see the bottom in
Culver Cliff Bay on Sunday at about 3m deep - or the Puller Bank, but that
may be too close to inshore.  I'll have a look at the back of the Nab.

30m in the UK?! I'd like to see it!!!!! (really, I would)

Nah, spent last week in Lanzarote and enjoyed some surprisingly good diving
around Puerto Del Carmen and - in particular - Mala. Dived the old harbour
wrecks (awesome) but the highlight for me was Mala - an awe inspiring place
to dive with gin-clear waters, loads of life and some amazing volcanic
underwater scenery.

Seconded -- absolutely stunning visibility on Hands Deep last year.  I can't
remember if I was down there for August Bank Holiday, but pretty close to
that.  Sat at 35m and easily able to make out the ripples on the surface...

I've done those dives off PDC too back in 2001, great Barracudas and Angel
sharks an arm's length away from me :-)  couldn't do Mala due to it being
very windy when I went (February) but I've heard all about those dives from
a buddy of mine.

Done Tenerife too (in 1996), as Gordon described exactly my feelings on the
scenery.  I had my dive there (dive #3) videoed too, buoyancy must have been
good to avoid all those horrible purple spiny urchins :-(  Highlight of the
dive was an octopus.  Wouldn't go to Tenerife again unless someone could
tell me it was better than the dives around Los Gigantes.

I've had 18m off Weymouth ( Durdle Door), scallops were lovely :-)

We've had 25m viz in Lerwick for the last few weeks, it's gone snotty
over on the west coast, but so far the E is fine.
However off to Plymouth on Friday for a week or so, anyone know what the
viz is likely to be there?

We had pretty good viz last week: (Could see the ripples from 30M, but the
photo was from 20M, taken by my buddy)

But then the algea came, and on Tuesday from 0-12M it was 1-3M viz, but
below 12M it was about 30M+

Funny coming up in GIN clear water, and then seeing this brown carpet above
you!

Over in Norgey a week back mate.  Same day we came up in a shoal of herring:

http://www.student.uib.no/~csa022/dykking/040511/images/IMG_5581-2.jpg

The viz here is very "Blue" from Nov-May, then we get the algea bloom in
May-June, and then the viz is OK, but rather "Green" for the summer/late
summer.  Sept is usually nice, but there can be a layer of algea that causes
it to be quite dark below 30M.

The site we were diving is called "Tur?y" near Bergen.  It's a typical
little club dive spot really.  The instructions to reach it are on my site
here:

http://www.diving-in-norway.com/portal/index.php?page=6

But I'm afraid it's in norwegian! :) Oh well, at least the maps can be read.
