I haven't seen this question addressed in this group. I'm planning a
trip to introduce (gently) my very water-phobic husband to snorkeling.
I've seen lots of great suggestions for places to snorkel off the
beach, but they seldom address the depth of "off the beach". I doubt
anything on this earth would be able to get him into water above his
waist. Does anyone know of places, preferably Caribbean, with decent
snorkeling in only a few feet of water?
Thanks,
Jennifer

Certainly, there are MANY places in the Caribbean that would meet your
requirement, but aren't there other considerations? I mean, flying to
Bonaire is a LONG way JUST to make him feel better about the water. --- What
about YOU? Do you want to go diving in the same place?
I could say that Little Cayman, particularly Pirate's Point resort has very
nice snorkeling right in front of the resort. Water 4-6 ft deep. I'll
stipulate that LC is not known for it's snorkeling, but it IS known for it's
diving.
In this situation, hubby could wander down from the veranda (100ft) and walk
right into shallow, nice snorkeling with reef fish, small rays, lobsters,
etc. Apr?s snorkel is back to the veranda for first adult bev of the day.
Sometimes we do a snorkel after a double dive day post lunch.
In early Dec, when we do, they even have lobster season open where you can
get 'em right in front of the resort. Chef will fix em up just like you
like!

Coz is not a place I'd take a water phobic. Even close to shore, the
current is too unpredictable for somebody that's scared before he even gets
damp.

I don't know Treasure Island Resort. I do know Sunset House. Both are
pretty special. The only problem I see is the entry and exit. You go
straight from dry to over your head, at least at Sunset House you do. For
most, the beauty of the water, reefs and critters, quickly takes care of any
initial nervousness, but I could not be sure that would be the case with
somebody that starts out seriously scared.
