Hi

Can anybody please give me exact instructions ( turn-by-turn ) how to get to the
"famous La Jolla Caves", that's what I've been hearing is the best snorkeling
site in the area. I've been to La Jolla Cove before, are they far from
the Cove? Is it really a good snorkeling out there? Do I need a wetsuit
at this time of year? How cold is the water?

Thanks a lot!

Enter the water at La Jolla Cove.  Turn right (east).  Follow the shoreline
to Goldfish Point.  Roughly 1/3 mile.

Re the caves, don't kill yourself.

> Is it really a good snorkeling out there?

Yes, when visibility is decent.  If you phone (619) 221-8824, you'll get a
recording telling you what the lifeguards think visibility is that day.

> Do I need a wetsuit at this time of year?

Up to you.  A spring suit would not be excessive, although a fair number of
people go in with just a bathing suit.  A thick, diving wetsuit is not
needed if you are snorkeling at this time of year.

> How cold is the water?

At this time of year, the surface temperature varies between 68 and 74
degrees F.  It is obviously warmest on flat, sunny days.

Some people swim/snorkel LJ Cove with nothing, some w/ a 3mm. Divers
usually have a 5mm or 7mm since they are often down longer and it's
colder at depth. I would recommend a 3mm wetsuit, surface temperature
is currently around 70F.

Not sure on the 'caves'....
