I'm going to be in SE Asia at that time.  It is my desire to spend a week in
Sipadan/Mabul, maybe 3 days and 3 days at each.  I've been trying to
organize a trip from home but it doesn't seem to be working out too well.
Does anyone know if it will be easier for me to organize myself for that
trip straight out of Singapore?  Or alternately, have my people currently in
Singapore organize it for me?

Its very simple to organise from anywhere, i have stayed here in 2002 and
going again in 22 days time, look at WWW.SEAVENTURESDIVES.COM
Or telephone Emily on  0060 8826 1669 she can organise it all for you.

At seaventures resort you are idealy placed for diving Mabul (1 minute in
boat) Sipadan 15 minutes (you can see it from Mabul) and Kapali.

The Rig is a old Oil Platform, it is very quiet for guests, last time i
was there me and my wife were the only ones on there, which was great for
diving, no other divers encountered for the week.....the staff are great
and treated us like royalty, food is good......nothing to spend money on,
its full board.....no flies out at sea as opposed to land based, we love
it.

Thanks Dave, we've talked about the dive platform before, have we not?

Take a look at http://www.sipadan-village.com.my/
Sipadan Water Village is at Mabul island. It is a wondeful place build
out over the coral reef, we have been there three times. Each couple
has a 70m2 cottage. Service and food is great. Diving includes three
daily boat dives (one or two at Sipadan) and free diving on the very
good house reef (mandarin fish!!).
The Seaventure is an ugly platform, which certainly should not be
placed there. The diving under the platform though is very good (giant
frog fish), it is few minutes from Mabul.

I vouch for Sipadan-Mabul Water Village (SWV) too. I was there 5d/4n. Did 22
dives, can you believe it? Really Un-water Breathing Addict!

Thanks Peter.  That is the place that I intend to spend a few days.  What
I'm wondering is, does anyone know if it will be easier for me to organize
myself for the trip once I am in Singapore (as opposed to North America,
where I am now)?  Alternately, I could get my people living in Singapore to
make my reservations?

Has anyone booked Sipadan/Mabul (either/or/both) from Singapore and if so,
how much lead time will I need for that time of year?

Yes. My friends did that while they lived in Singapore. You could post
your question(s) or email me and then I'll ask them for the info, if
ya like. :)

Geez, that's a great idea!!  Thanks.  I've asked my people in Sing to look
into it for me, but they don't dive and so I'm not sure they will actually
get the info I want.  Too bad your buds aren't still there too.  (I mean too
bad for me)  :^)

Well... what do you think of this : You could email your ppl in Sing
with your questions, and be **very specific** in the details. Then,
perhaps, they could even take a copy of your email to the dive shop or
use it when they phoned operators and such. Since they aren't divers,
it might make it easier on them, esp if any language barriers were
involved. I'll email my buds and see what they say. They might not be
as helpful though, since they've been back here for some time now and
some things may have changed. :(
