Two couples going to Bonaire in March. Have arranged for some boat diving
along with a truck and shore diving. Curious about tipping for the boat
dives. When (i.e., at the end of the two weeks or after each dive?) and how
much (i.e., tip as a group or couple or each?).

I would tip in Bonaire the same as you would tip anywhere else.

Thats not much use to all people... :) No tipping here in NZ... It's just
not part of our culture... What do you tip in the states? 5%? 10% of the
cost?

I think most consider 15% as customary - more for exceptional service -
much less of you're not returning during your lifetime.

We've been to Bonaire 5 times since '95, still our favorite location &
surprisingly great food.

Our understanding is all service related operations, including restaurants,
on Bonaire started adding a service fee, 10-15%, a few yrs ago. It was meant
to be spread around the entire staff, whether it is I don't know.  It was
explained to us that few Europeans tip thus they force everyone to anti up
via this service charge.  It may go by a different name but that's the jest
of this added fee.  We certainly do tip exceptional service.

I assume you are doing 6 boat dives and the rest shore dives.  Tip the boat
captain / divemaster based on the 6 dive price, not your entire package
price (unless you want to).  The price of the dives should be web site of
the dive operator (probably between $250-$300).  I usually tip 10%.  I then
tip the guys filling the tanks for shore diving and cleaning crew
separately.  Your choice on timing, most places split the weeks tips.

You will love Bonaire - great diving.  Suggestion - Angle city, Hilma
Hooker, margate bay, red slave,1000 steps, karpata.  Buy the $5 or $10 book
on the dives site.  It is valuable in describing the entries and exits for
the shore dives!  It also discusses the level of the dive (advanced,
beginner, ect...)  Use your boat dives to go to Klein Bonaire if possible.

Hope to see ya there, we are going on March 20th to Sand Dollar.

Enjoy and keep blowing bubbles.
