As far as I know, the only good shore diving in the Naples area is hunting
for sand dollars, and you can do that standing with your head above water.
I'm not an expert on Naples area diving largely because there is so little
of it. There are a few shallow ridges and some wrecks. Trips to the
wrecks, or any dive to significant depth (defined as deep enough you're not
tempted to snorkel instead) tend to be long. The drop off along Florida's
west coast is quite gradual in most places.
The Keys are a good choice, but Florida's east coast is closer. If you're
looking for a day trip, you can reach Ft. Lauderdale in a couple of hours.
Our deeper reefs are pretty nice and our shallow ones are OK. Our wrecks
are better and more numerous than average.

Girlfriend, her son and I went north of there to Clearwater and dove there.
Pretty good sites there and rates. Might be too far for what you had in mind
though.

Shorter drive to go to Fort Lauderdale (100 Miles) vs Clearwater (155
Miles) and the diving is MUCH better with more choices and a much
shorter boat ride. There is also shore diving just north of FLL in
Lauderdale by the sea. Best boat out of FLL I think is American Dream.
Book it out of any dive shop. My favorite is Undersea sports.
954-564-8661 Also lots of boats out of Pompano but that is 20-30 min
North. 595 goes right into the area where the boats are. As far as
hotels... lots of choices from old spring break hotels on the beach to
the new Hilton... All right on the beach. If you want to stay at a
hotel and walk across the street to beach diving there are lots of
low-med end choices in lauderdale by the sea. Some you dont even have
to cross teh street to dive.
