Several years ago I did a diving vacation in Cozumel and know how great it
is. I will be on a cruise in a few months and since it is a cruise with my
wife and daughter I will only do one dive. 2 of the stops are the Cayman's
and Cozumel so I wanted to know your thoughts of going back to Cozumel or to
the Cayman's which I have never been to.
Thanks!

Look at non-diving activities at each stop. Whatever ones you want to
do the least, dive there.

Cayman is more expensive than Cozumel, so if money is an issue, you may want
to think about that.
Personally, my suggestion would be Cayman, since you have not been there.
Both have diving worthwhile.

The best diving in the Caymans and in Cozumel is on the walls. The walls in
Cozumel are subject to current and most, if not all dives on them, are drift
dives. The walls in the Caymans only occasionally experience strong
currents and are often done from a static boat. The real question is which
do you think you'd enjoy the most.
Personally, I'd select the Cyamans if I had not done them before. Either
way, I'd book separate from the cruise ship. Those that cater to cruise
ships tend to go to the nearest sites rather than the best ones.

Since I dive Cozumel often I would probably try the Caymans just to do
something different.

I meant that if I were on a cruise and could only dive one spot. Of
course I have ZERO desire to take a cruise. As far as Caymans...it
may be cost prohibitive compared to Cozumel but I should maybe
consider trying a new place.

My observations are that all the dive shops base their itineraries on
weather and waves. I also just dove with a shop that catered to
cruise ships. If it were my cruise and I wanted to dive Cayman, I'd
book from the boat to maximize my convenience.

Last time I was there, which has been a while now, all the cruise ship
divers were taken to a wreck right in the port, along with all the cruise
ship snorkelers. That's hardly the best diving on Grand Cayman.
If it's changed, and the cruise ship companies have finally gotten the idea
that their customers will look elsewhere for their bookings if they're not
taken to decent sites, then I would agree with your point on convenience as
well as what you didn't mention. If there is a delay in getting back to the
ship, it's unlikely to leave without passengers returning from something the
ship booked.

I'd plan on diving Grand Cayman. You can walk to an excellent shore
dive site from the shuttle dock and not have to deal with dive op
schedules. There's also the consideration that Grand Cayman doesn't
have much to offer for day visitors except diving (my apologies to
Caymanians).

The Turtle Farm and Botannical Gardens are nice. The hotel I stayed
at in December did a booming cruise ship business. They offered beach
fun, including Sea Doos and all that good stuff.

If you have not been to Stingray City I would dive it when at Caymen.

Dump the cruise and spend a week at either island. Both have world class
diving, and to make one dive over a week????
Just my 2cents.

I already did Cozumel (see OP). This is a Disney Cruise as I don't
think my 4 y/o daughter would have much fun spending a week at a dive
resort.

PADI doesn't certify 4-year-olds yet? Damn liberals and their
lawyers, always getting in the way.
