Hi,
I'd like to get some recommendations and also general info about diving
in Fiji. The best time to go, viz, what one would expect to see there,
must-see dive sites, you name it.
I'm especially interested about bit more peaceful islands with small
dive shops, something a bit off the beaten path.
Thanks in advance,

I've had 13 trips to dive Fiji's reefs --land based operations and live-aboards.
Anyone who thinks they can just drop off a plane in Nadi and expect to be immediatley
escorted to the best that Fiji has to offer is mistaken. Most likely, one will board a
small plane and be taken to one of the outer islands in the Fiji archipelago, or
perhaps the best that Fiji has to offer is through a live-aboard dive operation. That
has been my experience.
Since January - April is cyclone season, that time frame should be avoided. If you are
a N. American diver, most likely you will want to take your dive vacation June-August,
and that is a wonderful time to visit Fiji for diving. Days are balmy, not too cool,
not too warm and humidity genrally low -- great for suiting up without breaking into a
sweat.
I once had a trip to Fiji in late October and I found it was already getting a bit too
warm.
