hi, I am trying to book a diving vacation this august and need some advice
on where to go.  I' m thinking either Belize, Bonaire or Cayman Brac possibly.
I was set on going to Bonaire but i just viewed some photos of somebody's
trip online and all the coral in her picture looked bleached and dying.  So
I'm thinking belize maybe.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thank you, cheryl

Little Cayman was my last dive trip.  Report is here:

I went to Belize, and dove from a liveaboard a few years ago.  Report
is here:  http://www.pathcom.com/~bracuk/Trips/WaveDancerBelize.htm

I was in Bonaire in 1993 or so.  It was nice then.

We were there in Feb. for 3 weeks, and the reefs were great. I don't
know where they found bad coral, it was all pretty healthy. No bleaching
that we saw.

The nicest I have found so far have been those around Tortola and
Virgin Gorda, perhaps because the marine park has been in existance
for such a long time.

The other nice place I have found is Los Roques, an archipelago about
100 miles NW of Marguerita (Marguerita was GROSS!!! :-(  )

I cannot speak to Belize or Cayman but Bonaire's waters are a marine
park so very protected. Lenny did some damage.   I know some divers on
a huge motor yacht who travel the world diving and they say Bonaire's
reefs are incredibly healthy. They spend May - July each year on
Bonaire. I personally have seen quite a bit of sea life..it's
phenomenal really. Good luck deciding.

I know it's not one of the three you are considering, but I've just returned
from Bequia.  The coral there is the healthiest I've ever seen.

I am commenting only on your TITLE as your criterion of choice.

The healthiest reef in the Caribbean that I know are the reefs anywhere
on the Palancar Wall, below 190 fsw.   The constant currents in Cozumel
keep those reefs and black corals down there clean and well nourished.
