Looking for recommendations for a Thanksgiving dive trip, resort or
liveaboard where we can expect dry weather. Would like to stay within
a days travel from New England. We were thinking about Belize,
Caymans, and T&C Islands, but in looking at past years trip reports it
seems that there are good odds for bad weather.

Any suggestions on places we can have good chances of nice weather?

A,B,C islands.  Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao.  Out of the storm tracts and
probably will be dry.  Check past trip reports for them.  Keep in
mind that no amount of advance planning will always outsmart Mother Nature.

The further south in the Caribbean you go, the better your chances of
good weather.  Think about places like St Lucia, Grenada, Aruba,
Curacao, or Bonaire.

This page, http://www.pathcom.com/~bracuk/Trips/, has links to trip
reports to St Lucia and Grenada.

I think I have a better idea....

I used to use my Thanksgiving weekend -- usually departing Wednesday night to Florida,
staying overnight in a motel in either Miami or Ft. Lauderdale.... and then heading out
to one of the Bahama resorts, early the next morning in time to get "wet" upon arrival
at a resort in the Berry Islands or Bimini or even jaunts as far as Long Island (in the
Bahamas) or trips to the Abacos.

All of this meant....that I returned on Sunday to Miami or Ft. Lauderdale, connecting
to flight back to NYC where I live -- giving me three days of solid diving in the
Bahamas because I usually dived the same day I arrived at the resorts in the Bahamas
(Thursday).

I am suggesting this because it is a less expensive option than flying all the way down
to a place like Bon Aire which is just off the coast of South America and the time lost
in getting there on a longer, more expensive trip..

I think the Bahamas are a perfect dive weekend (long weekend) package...the best
option.  I certainly wouldn't want to plan or spend more than a few days diving in the
Bahamas./

I would reserve the week-long dive vacations for trips to Little Cayman, Belize and the
like where you really need more time to explore and the diving far superior.
