Coz virgin, first time there next month. Almost ready to push button on all
inclusive package w/FA/DH for 7 days. Will be diving every day, 2 in AM and
afternoons, if possible. Wanna be close to the reefs (short boat rides) +
do a little shore diving if I can't catch an afternoon boat. 1100+ dives
since '86.
Anybody been to Fiesta American & dove with Dive House recently?
Thoughts on a better plan of attack?
Thanks all.

The hotel looks nice and new from the outside, after all the post-hurricane
reconstruction. However, it appeared that some work was still going on as
of a month ago so you might be exposed to some construction noise and/or
loss of amenities.

Yeah. Avoid Cozumel for another year at least. The hurricanes did a mighty
good job of trashing the reefs. As a Coz virgin, you'll likely be
underwhelmed by your first visit there.

As a Coz virgin, he may still be impressed. :)

After what La Nina did to the indo-Pacific reefs back in 98 (I lived there
for another 5 years after that) I'll take my chances with Coz. Mom Nature
is amazing on how she bounces back. The typhoons we got out there would
occasionally knock off a huge coral head and break some stuff, but the
shelling was always really good afterwards ;-)

Very optimistic of you, but it still doesn't explain why you want to dive
Cozumel before it "bounces back". There are plenty of places that weren't
as badly smacked by Mom Nature.

Hell, a bad day diving in Coz is better than a good day diving in
Oklahoma...

And a good diving in Cenotes is even better :D
Just came back from Tulum, where I stayed and dove with Aktun Dive.
Grand Cenote, Calavera, Nohoch Nah Chich, Dos Ojos, Minotauro,
Escondido, Cristal, Calimba and couple of others. If my buddy wouldn't
get the DCS, it would have been more... Typhoons have had no effect on
the caves at all :D

OK, You're correct. They are in Asia. Replace it with "Hurricanes", but
the meaning would be still the same ;) Caves are untouched by the weather.

Oki,
I just got back from Coz. The city is just about completely repaired. The
shallow reefs showed some minor damage. The deeper reefs looked pretty much
the same as before the storm. Lots of creatures swimming around. Vis was
typical Coz: 80 - 100'.
I haven't used DH, but they sure do seem to have a lot of "BIG" boats (read
lots of divers) out.
Most boat rides are pretty short; less than 30 minutes or so even to the
southern reefs.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, all. I'm going to stay @ Hotel Coz and I guess Dive Paradise takes
their divers. I leave May 3.
break break
Just sent my backup dive computer (old, blue, wrist unit) Uwatec Nitrox off
for it's first battery replacement... the shop guessed ~$80?! Yikes! The
battery does last, though...
