You might consider also making this post at uk.rec.scuba. I believe there
are more people that frequent that group, that also frequent the Red Sea.

Thanks dave, I did check out your website. I was wondering if you thought if
was safe to travel there.

Look on the positive side........life is dangerous, if i had stopped and
given thought to how safe a place was before i travelled there i doubt i
would have seen half the dive destinations i have. There is allways a
reason for NOT doing something.........what is it that you are concerned
about.............
Ask yourself this (and i dont know where you are).....would you travel to
the States ? Just look at the reputation the States have.......every body
walking round with guns......kids shooting kids, gangs killing gangs,
people flying planes into buildings, people with shotguns in the rear
windows of their Ute's.......Bombings in London.......Bombings in Spain
etc......I have been going to Sharm since i started to dive.....people
live and work there..........like they do anywhere else.
sh.t happens........
Did i worry about going to Sipadan after the kidnappings.....
Booked hotels in Manila as terrorists were bombing hotels.....and while
there they caught the bugger who did the kidnapping on Sipadan......
Attempted coupe on Fiji while we were there........
Massacre in Luxor just after we were there....
Bombings in Bali just behind the hotel we stayed in .....
And a load of stories to tell if i had the time.........
The week of 911 i had 12 flights confirmed for me for one dive trip, 3 of
them through US air space........safest place to be, would'nt you agree.
Its as safe as anywhere........just do it.
Enjoy your trip.

Excellent advice. I also travelled within two weeks of 911. Never felt
safer and there was lots of room on the plane.
Your chances of a bad accident are significantly higher driving to work
every day.

Absolutely.............said in a sentence what i took a para to say.......
Now then, someone above, talking about PADI training.......mentioned
statistics and the correlation between how many bad PADI instructors there
are......or arn't..........just think about this......
There are more people killed on the roads every day, every year by drivers
that are not on drugs or high on alchohol than those that are........gets
you thinking eh....
The moral..........lets all go and get stoned and pissed out of our
heads.............then drive to work.

And more people get killed by falling coconuts than by sharks, (quote

Looking at some of the discussion in here, the falling of
coconuts is rather widespread.....sounds like a lot of them took my advice
too......

You probably should worry about the traffic in Cairo (or where you
currently live) more than terrorists. Probability of dying in a traffic
accident is far higher than dying because of terrorist activity.

Hi Jamie,
my experience with the Egyptians is that they are friendly, helpful and in
no way dangerous (except maybe for the shop keepers, they can be annoying)
and that Egypt is a safe country where (tourist)police does a lot of
checking and they are present everywhere to give you a very safe feeling..
It takes only one or just a few lunatics to ruin your vacation and maybe
your life. And you can meet them anytime, anywhere. Chances that you run
into them in Egypt are not that much higher than in Paris, London or New
York (or Cairo :-).
Looks like a wonderful trip you've planned. Enjoy it!
Leo
PS July can be hot, though............
