I was thinking they were wondering more along the lines of how it fared in
the Great Hurricanes of 2005. One of your links links to some info:
"Hurricane WILMA destroyed the island lashing it with 6 hours of 200 kph+
winds and a 9 foot sea & storm surge. The maximum elevation on this
picturesque island is just 3 feet. When the eye of Wilma left the Yucatan
it passed by this tiny island on the northern tip near Cancun. In its wake
it left 4-5 feet of SALT WATER in every house. EVERYTHING everyone owned is
basically destroyed!"
"Further, there is NO ELECTRICITY 75% of the utility poles are down &
twisted. The main waterline from the mainland 7 miles away is broken so
there is NO WATER for cleaning, bathing etc. The towns Reverse Osmosis
plants cannot produce Fresh Drinking/Cooking water without electricity. The
ultimate disaster is the ferry barge that brings EVERYTHING to the island
including gasoline, diesel for the electric plant, food,
supplies...everything. The only way anything is now getting to the island is
by small boat & gasoline supplies are LOW!"
So as long as you like small, sleepy, less developed, and as long as you
bring your own water, generator, gasoline, food, supplies, everything, you
should enjoy it.
