Getting close to a trip to Akumal (middle of Jan 2006) can anybody fill me
in as to the conditions after the Hurricane?  What am I  to expect for water
temp for diving and/or snorkeling?  We probably won't make the trip over to
Coz.

Thanks,Graham

I have the information that cenotes are OK and you can do the cave
diving without problem :D No info about the sea, but this is not point
of my interest.
In Playa del Carmen (some 40-60km north) they have electricity and
expect to haveoperations getting back to "normal" soon, so expect that
in Akumal it should be also similar.
Regarding Cozumel, there were posts on this group informing the situation.

If you need any more info, contact Aquatech in Akumal and ask them

As far as I can tell, the hotels and such in akumal are ok. They have
electricity, and did not suffer much damage. I am going there the end
of next week, and will post a report once I see the place.

We just returned from a week in Akumal. Everything is open, and the
shops are operating. They worked furiously to get a new palapa roof on
the bar at Lol Ha in time for Christmas.

All of the billboards on Rt 307 are gone, and the signs at Taj Mahal
and Choc Mool are gone, so if you don't know where they are, you won't
find them.

We were cave diving and didn't go in the ocean. One of the boat
captains told me the water was 84, but I'm skeptical. I would plan on
78 and be happy if it was warmer.

Roatan varied from 79 to 81 last week.
