Definitely the Habitat.  Best shore diving and closest to the best dive
sites, like the mushroom forest.

I concur with NJDiver, definitely Habitat.  Lions is closer to town but the
diving is not even close to that at Habitat.  Stayed at Habitat in 2004 and
Lions in August 2005.  When I go back it will be to Habitat.

For those who don't want to leave the grounds, how is the restaurant
and bar at Habitat?

The food is good, not great.  The Habitat runs a shuttle into town on a
regular basis.  There are some really great restaurants in town. The bar
is outside, open air and overlooking the water - very nice set up.

From Atlanta, Air Jamaica offers a one-stop to Curacao.  Can anyone
top that?

NJ Diver gets a non-stop to Curacao on Continental out of Newark.
NJDiver - 09 Dec 2005 10:08 GMT
Actually, the Continental non-stop only flies on Saturday.  American
Airlines is also a good choice, with a quick stop over in Miami.  I
won't fly Air Jamaica any more.

Assuming that Air Jamaica has the flight that day at all.  They were
basically shut down for two weeks earlier this year due to maintenance
issues.  And they seem to be willing to cancel flights for no
particularly good reason.

At least it's a one stop and not a connection.  I've lost count of the
number of people who have spent a night in Montego Bay because of
squirrely connections.  Who the hell ever heard of a half empty flight
leaving early?

I prefer Lions Dive by far.  Here you can walk to happy hour at Mambo Beach,
visit the sea aquarium, visit
the town or nearby restaurants.  Rent a car and go out diving anywhere on
the island at any hour you want.
Why be a slave to a dive boat schedule...arent you here to shore dive?  When
you take a boat they almost
always just drive a ways down the shore to a spot you could just as easily
got to on your own from shore.  The
big exeption is Mushroom Forest which you need a boat.

Hope this helps.

That was not the case when I stayed at Habitat Curacao.  In fact, I
don't think I've been anywhere where the boat took us somewhere we
could dive from shore, except the last day of my Cayman Islands
Aggressor trip when we dove Devil's Grotto.

Hey guys.... Habitat has probably the best house reef on the island.
Grab a tank and go 24 hrs. a day.  Nobody makes you do the boat dives.
I like doing a couple of boat dives mixed with my shore dives.  I
don't like to work to hard for my dives anymore.  I guess that's why
my first choice is always liveaboard when possible.

Curacao is one of my favorites in the Caribe and Habitat is great.
