Hi,

I have been to Aruba several times, but not since 2003.  (recall it was
soaked by Ivan then).

So what is the island like now?  Has it recovered?  Any damage from this
years hurricanes?
And has the Natalie Holloway case impacted tourism?  (and if so, which way?)

Don't know if you heard, but the natural bridge collapsed on September
2, 2005.  You can find photo's on the Internet.

But there are smaller bridges in the same area (in the other photos)

Hi,

Yes, I saw that on the news.  Aruba has been in the news a lot lately :-(

I hear that things are fine there now.  But I get that from a travel agent
and the Mill Resort.  Would they deceive me?

If you're a hot little blond chickie, I advise not going off late at night
with strange men.

I just returned from Aruba.  Stayed at the Hyatt and dove with Red
Sail.  The island's in great shape.  No sign of hurricane damage.  The
hotel was sold out.  Tourism has not been impacted. The restaurants are
great, although the diving is just fair (its not Bonaire or Curacao).

basically, the place is a big gambling den and little else!

Hi,

Yes, but that can be a plus.  The diving on Aruba is OK (mostly wrecks) but
certainly not the best.  Some snorkeling places are also nice. (Malmok and
De Palm Island).

But the main reason that I have gone there 5 times since 1999 is the
casinos.  While I don't gamble, my wife knows blackjack.  There are a string
of 7 casinos along the beach opposite the Mill and most give "match play"
coupons.  Both of us use our limit of them each day.  With the coupons, and
if you play correctly (know the best play for every situation and keep a
high-low card running count), the odds greatly favor the player.  We
typically win $500-$1000 per trip which more than covers our expenses (like
my diving) for the trip. (She tells me how to play the non-obvious hands).

And unlike Wisconsin, it has no snow in January ;-)
