It looks like transporting CO2 canisters via plane is not allowed so I'm
looking for a shop near Kona on the Big Island that stocks CO2 cartridges
for inflatable snorkeling vests (the CO2 is for emergency inflation). Any
suggestions?
Thanks.

Do they still make such a thing? I know they dropped them from BCs
sometime shortly after Seahunt went off the air.
No dive shop that I know of carries such a thing. You might try
Walmart.

They are used in the inflatable life jackets (Type V) being sold now. Check
with the local marine stores etc.

There are plenty of belicous type in Hawaii (Big Island).
There is a Wal Mart with plenty of guns and accessories for all the
belicous people.

I thought Joe had merely misspelled but your explanation is not so
bellicose.

Try the marine supply stores, bike shops, and the local WalMart (there
is one in Kona BTW). Scuba stores don't stock these much any longer as
they are not used in BCD.
