Shawn, the Pisces Dive Club (used to be related to the late and
lamented Pisces Scuba) meets Wednesdays and Sundays during the summer.
Usually at Windy private on Wednesday nights and at the dam Sunday
afternoons.  Join the piscesdiveclub group on Yahoo and get keyed in.
There are no dues, no officers, no stinking rules.  Just diving and
drinking.  Sometimes more drinking than diving.  But always in the
right order.

Write me privately for me details.  Where in Austin are you?  I'm in
Oak Hill (SW, by the Y).

thanx, dillon, but i'm not much interested in diving locally, no cold
dark lakes for me.  i'll hold out for the trips. but now, meeting up
with other divers, that's another matter...

You'll learn to appreciate Cozumel much better after diving in Travis.
Besides, how do you keep in practice?

Blue water diving is nice, but not all of us can live in Florida.  And
for some of us here, Lake Travis would be warm, clear water.

I'm trying to put together a group for right after school lets out
next May.

After awhile it's just not that hard.  Plus, diving is supposed to be
fun, so, if cold dark water isn't your idea of fun, why do it?

Well at least keep the beer cold and the coffee hot.  And remember
that we still need both after a dive in August.  Air temp today was
100.  Surface temp at Windy was reported at 84.  Temp at 75 was 65.

Speaking of cold lakes... A friend of mine asked me to dive in the
pedernales river last week to help him locate a cement dock anchor. I
solo dived and there was no way to buddy dive even if I had one.

At 5 feet the water was a pleasant green color with 1 foot vis.

At 10 feet I could hardly see half a foot

at 20 feet I could not read my gauges anymore

at 27 feet it was pitch black like night time and I could only see my
flashlight if I shined it into my mask from 3 inches.

at 30 (bottom) I groped around and in about a half hour I felt something
with a right angle and that was the anchor! I tied off a line to it and
ascended.

I could not believe it was pitch black at 30 feet. It was very strange
indeed. Also it was good practice to work completely blind. I connected
a steel cable with 2 ubolt fittings with a wrench and never saw any of it.

I had an extra tank and dove off the shore at my house on lake travis
near Bee Creek and it was not a whole lot better. 2 foot vis at best.
I've done a lot of dives from that same shore and have experienced vis
of up to 12 feet.

To be fair there was a lot of wind last week!
