If she really wants to get certified, why doesn't she take all of her
training at home and get full certification before your trip?  Or
alternately take all of her training at home and get a referral
certification on your trip?  A resort course only certifies her for 40'.
I'm just guessing but I think you'd like her to be able to dive with you,
right?

On the off chance that she's not sure that she wants to become a diver, you
probably need a place that offers something for her to do while you are out
diving.  What else is she interested in?

By the way, I don't know where you live either, but if it's on the West
Coast, I'd recommend the Cook Islands.  Lovely easily accessible snorkelling
from Muri Beach and Fruits of the Sea areas.  There's some pretty nice
places to stay down near the Muri Beach area and it's a beautiful island.

You don't say how far in the future you wedding/honeymoon are.
My suggestion is this -- if your bride can't get certified BEFORE
the honeymoon, forget about a dive destination for your honeymoon.
Spend your time enjoying each other's company rather than working
through a SCUBA certification course.  This is a once-in-a-lifetime
event -- it is the two of you who will make it special, not the
location or the diving.

That said, one place I might recommend from personal experience
is Anse Chastanet on St Lucia.  See your travel agent or
http://www.ansechastanet.com.  There are certainly other options, but
this would be one of my top candidates.

St John is another possibility.  Caneel Bay (http://www.caneebaly.com)
or the Westin resort (http://westinresortstjohn.com).

(All three of the above have on-site dive shops.)

Is the future Mrs Daddy looking for a quiet relaxing time? As long as
you don't want something with a mass of water sports, activities or
whatever, and like the sound of a medium (60 bungalow) resort with
great food, landscaped grounds, palm-fringed white beach, a hilltop
sunset satay bar and a friendly small dive centre that will do a PADI
course or a DSD, and goes to a great range of locations, (and even
loads and unloads your kit to and from the boat - hire kit available)
I have a suggestion that you might never have considered:

Phi Phi Island, Holiday Inn, Thailand.

1. I know - but life goes on. One way or another lots of nasty things
have happened around the world, this just happens to be a bit more
recent and given that locals had some tragedies too, they will be
well-pleased to have some tourist money coming it.

2. It was untouched - the wave went through Ton Sai Bay on Phi Phi.
Holiday Inn is nowhere near it and had a notice on the net before the
new year confirming it was business as usual.

3. Yes it does sound like a Travelodge on a motorway or something -
someone should tell them. Look it up on the net. The pictures are not
contrived - it does look like that.

4. I went there in 2003. I had to go back in 2004. And all the reports
are that the diving is better, the visibility is better...

5. The scenery. Most of the dives are boat trips to extraordinary
limestone tree-topped islands of various sizes that are just stuck in
the sea - that'll be the bits that James Bond flies past in "Man With
The Golden Gun"

6. The beach. That's THE BEACH. You stay on Ph Phi Don; Phi Phi Ley is
uninhabited, nearby and has good dives. So that means a surface
interval with fruit and soft drinks in Maya Bay. Every time The Beach
is on TV make sure you're round someone else's house. "Oh look - we
spent our honeymoon there. Didn't we dive that corner?" is one of the
best throwaway lines ever.

7. Go mad in Bangkok. A couple of nights stopover means a chance to see
the city, ride the skytrain, go on a longtail boat, ride a tuk-tuk, see
the royal palace and the temple of the Emerald Buddha, have
ridiculously cheap but excellent Thai meals (Everyone must go at least
once to Cabbages and Condoms - we went back on the second trip). And
don't forget a £2.50 Rolex or similar from the night market. And the
break is handy to reset the body clock so when you get to Phi Phi,
you're ready to dive.

There's lots of good advice here already.  To recap a few key points:

1)  Do your certs at home if at all possible so you don't spend your
honeymoon in a class
2)  Make sure there are other things to do in case she's not into an
intensive dive honeymoon

With those points in mind, I will tell you that we spent our honeymoon on
Moorea in the Tahitian Islands.  It is the most spectacular diving I have
ever experienced (qualifier: I have been diving at many places around the
world but there are still many places I haven't been, such as Truk).  The
water was so clear I thought I could see New Zealand.  There were sharks
everywhere but it all seemed very safe, natural and beautiful.

It was a magical place for a honeymoon, even without diving.

We are planning to return there for our 15 year anniversary in 2009.  We
will renew our vows, charter a sailboat, and sail and dive several of the
Tahitian Islands.
