What are you looking for, what's your style and what's your experience
level?
For the "discerning" diver, I recommend either Mike Severns or Ed
Robinson on Maui. Maui Divers is a nice chain of shops that runs
daily shore divers in Ka'anapali or Kahana.

Actually, a friend of mine--who is just getting started--wanted some
recommendations. Although I will take your advice next time I'm in
Maui. Thanks.

In Maui, Lahina Divers gets mostly positive reviews as a cattle boat.
They are best suited for the newbie who may need more than a little
handholding. Be advised that the hand is out at the end of the trip.

On Kauai, I like Bubbles Below. For Maui, I've dove with Ed Robinson.
Both operators are very professional.
