It's been 18 months since we've been back to Cozumel. Are there any NEW
restuaraunts worthy of mention? We don't care if they are cheap or
expensive, we just like good food.
Thanks.

Not new but my favorites are Pepe's, Primo's, and LaMission. La Mission
is my favorite based on taste (of course), portions, and price - very
reasonable - especially if one is not partaking of the liquor. Pepe's
is quite pricey but very good. Primo's was good - price was good and
the coconut ice cream was fabulous!

In addition to La Mission and Primo's, we like Guido's. The last is a
bit of a walk since the street is all torn up, but worth it.

I'm going back to Cozumel after years away (Big mistake) We started diving
there in '84 and stopped 7 years ago to go to other carib spots. But now
we're going back. I need a recommendation for a dive company and lots of
info on the changes in the reef. We've dived everywhere from Punta Sur in
the south to Baracuda up north near the airport. A great dive co is always
key. We don't care about fancy boats and avoiding "cattle boats" is
essential". Back in the good old days the boats were chugging diesels and
were so slow you had lunch on the beach near Palancar. The El Presidente
was the most southly hotel. I know its changed also so any advice you can
give would be appreciated.

PS I see mention of a restuarant called Primo's. Back in the day the
lighthouse on the Southern tip of the island turned into what you could
have call a restuarant on Sundays. It was run by a guy named Primo. His
family supplied the cooks. The cook used a 3 foot skillet and did fish on
one end and pork and chicken at the others and you ate at pinic tables. We
would ususally be the only Gringoes there. Could this be the same guy.

Two I found last month were Mesa 17 and Lobsteria.
Mesa 17 is in the old La Cocay location, on Corpus Cristi Plaza, at
Ave 25 and Calle 17. The couple running it were Americans. It
appears they bought the restaurant intact including furnishings. He
had worked as a chef in the Bahamas and Dominican Republic before they
came to Cozumel. Food was excellent, very similar to La Cocay.
Lobsteria is on the corner of Ave 5 and Calle 7, I think. The dining
room is small, in a traditional building that had been done up very
nicely (the place looks good). They had lobster tails wrapped in
plastic, with the weight and price (in Pesos) marked, laying on a big
bed of ice by the entrance. You picked one, and it could be prepared
several ways. I had the "orange style", but it was more tomato and
peppers than orange. Still, it was good. There were other menu
choices too.
Not new, but other favourites:
Guido's - the fish is always excellent and the surroundings gorgeous
Parroquia - for relatively inexpensive ceviche and other local dishes
Mission "taco place" on Ave 30 - good food at a decent price
beach place at Chen Rio (half way down east side of island) - good
ceviche and fish, what a location!

Just got back from Coz, tried a relatively new restaurant called
Especias. Quite good, very reasonable. Just run a Google search and
you'll get some reviews and descriptions.
