I've been reading a blog from Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute on a
project they're working on in the Gulf of Mexico, "Operation Deep Scope".
They've developed this new camera that eliminates the liabilities of
traditional deep-sea photography from motorized submersibles, white lights,
etc. What they've been finding is amazing, including a new species of crab,
a 15' six-gill shark, and best of all a yet-to-be positively identified
large squid. This is a huge step forward in oceanographic research; I can't
stop reading.
Here's their home page:

The electrical jelly was worth a mention too. Thanks for posting it.

It's a 3D imax film Disney has produced. They also have a couple of
links to hydrothermal vent expeditions, pics of conceptual space
vehicles, and such. The film is based on scientific deep sea
exploration and extrapolates into astrobiology.
