Mark Lindsey - 21 Feb 2005 01:03 GMT My wife and I are going back to Cozumel in May. Inasmuch as Plaza Las Glorias still isn't open and may become all inclusive, what other places are w/i walking distance of downtown and have beach access? We've been there about 10 times, but since we've always stayed at PLG, we've never visited any of the other places.
Casa Mexicana is a nice looking place, but our friends stayed there last month and said it was a bit sterile.
Any suggestions?

Dr. Yak - 21 Feb 2005 01:31 GMT Hotel Cozumel (formerly Brisas, and lots of other names) was nice the two times I've stayed there. It comes as all inclusive or without meals. I've always liked going into town. Maybe the food is better there now with the change in management/name.
mslf500 - 22 Feb 2005 16:31 GMT Any one stayed at the Vista Del Mar near Casa Mexicana or Hacienda Miguel on the north side of the square?

Lathrop - 23 Feb 2005 16:49 GMT I am going to cozumel in 8 days and have 3 day stay at Iberostar cuzumel and 3 day at Iberostar Queztel on the main land in play del car. I stayed at the Iberostar Queztel last year and loved it, used resort divers at the hotel, contacted many other dive operators and only recieved 3 responses back and the one that was highly recomended and most helpful was the one who was on vacation while I would be there. So I decide to use the resort divers at the hotel had good experience with them last year. I will post how it work out when I get back. Paul

I've stayed in Cozumel about 10 times before. The Iberostar is too far from town for us. We really enjoy bar hopping at night and would rather walk back to our room to freshen up for the next day.
However, if you are driving, and you have a car that the odometer actually works, maybe you could do this for me.....what is the actual distance from the town square to what was Plaza las Glorias (one your right as you head south on the main beach road) and what is the distance from the town square to the Coral Princess just north of town and on your left?.
We really want to stay ocean front, but w/i a nice walk of downtown.
PS: If you like Iberostar, you should check out El Presidente. It's a wonderful hotel. We stayed there as well. Again, it's simply too far our for us.
Thanks

The distance from PLG to town is exactly 10 minutes walking, plus or minus 5 minutes. Hope that helps.

Hope that helps. So it depends on whether you are on your way to the bar or on your way back from the bar?

Much shorter, you mean. Until I find that slick spot and make a sitzmark on the concrete.

E Barnet - 24 Feb 2005 16:38 GMT Re: Cozumel.
Just a bit further south of Plaza las Glorias on the beach side of the road is Scuba Club Cozumel, which my family and I have returned to quite a few times. The food is great, the service is great, and they run a great dive operation with unlimited shore dives. They are also much further away from the cruise ship pier as well as the traffic noise is much lower. The hotel has good security because it has a gated entrance that has a doorman.

Loose Cannon - 24 Feb 2005 16:18 GMT > Any one stayed at the Vista Del Mar near Casa Mexicana or Hacienda Miguel > on the north side of the square? Did the Hacienda a few months ago. Nicely located, large rooms, beautifully landscaped center courtyard, and an excellent staff. In addition, they bring you a beautiful breakfast of fresh brewed coffee, fruit juice, and wonderfully fresh sweet rolls every morning when you request it. You can find less expensive accomodations but, for the money, it's an excellent value.
It's a bit off the path as far as where many of the dive ops are located, but I didn't find that to be a problem. Highly recommended.
Of course, the diving was great in Coz. Did the "Devil's Throat" at Punta Sur for the first time. Way cool.
We're headed back this summer.
mslf500 - 02 Mar 2005 20:35 GMT Thanks. We looked at Hacienda Miguel, but we have decided to stay at Vista Del Mar which is next to Casa Mexicana. I'll post our thoughts on it in June.
I found an aerial mapping place that gave us the distances from the hotel to the town sqaure. Coral Princess was three miles, PLG was 1.2 miles.

If you already have been there, you know that the Plaza Las Glorias will be condominium ownership. We stayed a few years ago in a private home very close to Plaza and the supermarket. Two bedrooms, living room, dining room, two baths, kitchen, etc., and daily maid service for about $875 for the week. I just checked and they still rent: http://www.cozumel-villas.com/carlita.html
There are other homes also very well priced. You might want to try one on your next trip.
