The two major daily newspapers in Honduras, La Prensa and El Heraldo
carried a news story on Thursday about a recent plebiscite held on
Utila titled No más alcohol - no more alcohol. The story hasn't been
archived yet online. I'll post the link when it does appear.

An excerpt from the La Prensa story by Ramón Tejeda, Th, 28 AUG 03:

yes, that is interesting!

or the gist in English:

By a clear margin, Residents of Utila in a secret and direct vote
decided to ban the sale of alcohol on the small cays around Utila. They
decided this despite the fact that 90% of the island income comes from
tourism. The cays are very popular with tourists to go sun bathing and
drinking.

Residents seem to be tired of their reputation of alcoholic addition.

Thank you Ron for translating. My ability to translate for others is
sorely lacking - hopefully it will be improving the longer I live here
in Honduras.
