Remember that trip you took to Thailand, the Maldives, the Seychelles,
India, etc?

Remember that woman who made your bed every day, the bartender who
served up cold fruity drinks, the guy who hauled your tanks and gear?
All of these folks are really hurting right now. Many of their
relatives are missing or dead, their places of employment gone, their
houses destroyed.

I've never been to any of these places but having traveled, I like
many of you know that there are people who take care of us when we go
to destinations like these. We've all seen them and often they are
forgotten when we leave. Even though I've never met these people in
Thailand, Sri Lanka, etc, I know who they are.

While international financial support is on the way, it's nowhere near
what will be required. This morning the fatality count had passed 115
thousand. The threat of disease is increasing hourly. We need to act,
you and me. Governmental aid so far totals only 500 million or so. It
cost more than that to make a few Hollywood action flicks. This
disaster will require BILLIONS. Your help is needed. Here are a few
places you can donate on-line. All are well established orgs with good
track records. Even a five or ten dollar donation helps. What our
government provides simply will not be enough.

Thanks.

$5 or $10?  I didn't make it out of the ping-pong show in Patpong the
other night without donating over $60 to the local economy.  If only
Mexico would export donkeys to Thailand, the women would make a fortune.

It was something more than what you spent at the ping-pong show :-)

My hotel (Sheraton Grande Sukhimvit) is having a jazz benefit tomorrow
night (Sunday here) where all the bar proceeds are being donated to the
cause.  As Popeye can attest, my bar proceeds alone could restore all
of Koh Phi Phi.  Unfortunately we leave tomorrow morning.  I'll write a
check when I get home, dating it in 2004 for a much needed deduction.

Hey, whatever works. Take care of yourself, have a safe and Happy New
Year, and we'll hear from you when you get back.

Greg,

I am having problems with my sump pump,  I could use a little help.
$22.50 would go a long way in me buying a case or two of beer.  Is it
important for you to know that I quit drinking?

That's way too much information, Joe.  I recommend Viagra or
Preparation H.

Tell ya what, I'll renounce my life membership in the NRA. If you can
get my $100 back from them, I'll split it with you.  Otherwise, come on
out to L.A. anytime and I'll buy you lots of beer.

No you don't - my vote is to keep the NRA membership.  But you can still
buy lots of beer - you get off cheap - stopped drinking

If you wish to donate to a specific cause rather than to an anonymous large
organization, check out the service clubs (Rotary, Lions etc.) websites in
the town/area you wish your donation to go to.

Couldn't find a "homeless buxum blonde supermodel-lookalike nymphomaniac"
category...

You could start your own charity and hire yourself to go on a (tax deductible) fact
finding trip to locate a suitable candidate. There are a few hundred Swedes still
unaccounted for, so you have a decent chance of success in locating one. At least one
that meets 3 or 4 of your 5 criteria, anyway.
