The Resort
This is a great place for a number of reasons. In no particular order
- really good food. brekky was either a hot buffet, fruit and serial
buffet, or made to order omlette. lunch was a cold buffet and/or hot
buffet and/or recently grilled burger or hot dog. supper was a cold
buffet and/or hot buffet and/or recently cooked
steak/fish/roast/something else really good.
- really good entertainment. the nightly shows were fantastic.
- very close to dive sites. the longest boat ride was to Punta Sur, 20
minutes. we were 15 minutes from Palancar and about 53 seconds for
Cedral Passage
About diving, we dove with Dressel Divers, located on site. Having
said that, we did notice that other guests got picked up from the
Iberostar dock by other dive ops.
The Dive Shop
We selected Dressel Divers because they are onsite at Iberostar. They
were a good choice. You can do 1 to 4 dives with them each day, we did
two. The way that works is every morning there is a two tank dive with
a return to the hotel for the surface interval. In other words, there
are two one tank dives each morning. In the afternoon, there is a
normal two tank dive.
The time on shore between morning dives varied between 15 and 45
minutes. There was always time for a flush toilet break and sometimes
time for a coffee. We didn't do it ourselves, but one other buddy pair
had breakfast between dives.
Every once in awhile you hear a story about the entire group having to
surface when one diver runs out of air. These guys take a different
approach. They send up a safety sausage, tell the low on air diver to
surface near the sausage and let the rest of us carry on. The dive
duration varied. It could have been due to the guide, or the schedule,
or something else. Sometimes we were invited to dive our air/bottom
time. A couple of other times there was a time limit.
The Diving
The diving was fantastic, as it always is in Cozumel. Visibility was
good, and the temperature was around 80 F. The reefs were beautiful
and there were lots of fish.

Your toadfish is great. We never got one to come more than half way
out.

That one was also in a hole. It was just a big enough hole for me to
get my camera into a good spot.

Would these nightly entertainment shows make this resort unsuitable for
someone who's looking for simple peace & quiet by 9pm?

I don't think so. At most, only 1 or 2 rooms would be close enough to
the theatre for noise to matter, and even then, you might be ok.
I don't know for sure because I went to every show and my room was far
from the theatre.
